Gerry Vernon is advertising in the Daily Union this week to hire another Assistant City Manager. WHY?!?!? And, how can this city afford this? Gerry Vernon knew the scope of his job before he accepted it. He also was informed of the dire financial situation this city is in. If he cannot do the job, he should resign immediately and allow someone to be hired that can! WE DO NOT NEED NOR CAN WE AFFORD ANOTHER ASSISTANT CITY MANAGER!! He has been instrumental in tax and fee increases to raise revenue that are unaffordable to the majority of the populace. Still, we have great difficulty in paying our bills and cannot do ANY street repair or rehabilitation, which should be the first thing on the "to-do" list when any funds can be allocated to such. Yet, we continue to support that damn opera house, sundown salute, carnivals, parades, and countless other stupid things that are totally unnecessary in light of our financial problems. I ask everyone to please do as I am going to do. That is to contact every city commissioner and express my disdane at this blatant stupidity and ask that they nip this thing in the bud and instruct Gerry Vernon to get on with his work or get out!

Ain`t that the truth? If you looked closely at corporate America, you`ll find plenty of overpaid, underworked "yes men" at or near the top. As long as they kiss the right asses, root for the right sports teams, and can play a little golf, they get the fat salaries and all the perks. I won`t even say the vast majority of these apple shiners are staunch Republicans. That would be stating the obvious and would be redundant.

Well, it took two months, but they did it. Headlines today -- "ASSISTANT CITY MANAGER HIRED." WHY?!?! It seems to be under some guise that this person will take over in some form the Public Works from that worthless Veolia (run by that stupid fatass Steve Hoambraker) and his expense will be gleened from that. But, were "we the people," who pay the bills, consulted on why and/or how this is financially feasible when we cannot pay our way now? NO!! We need an immediate detailed explanation OR we need an immediate dismissal of Vernon and Beatty AND a recall of elected officials! What part of BROKE can these idiots not understand?!?!

While a couple of brilliant minds are trying to sell us on the genius idea of a city income tax, it turns out we have plenty of money. We've got enough to pay a guy 79,000 a year, plus another 5,000 as a bonus, evidentally for doing his job. That makes it 84,000 a year, or 7000 a month.
This guy better make a differnce, or vernon needs to be out on his ass. And don't even think about telling us how much more money they need from us. They've proven they have plenty of money.

It is hard to swallow there is enough money to hire another asst city mgr. Yet I have been told in the past, that the money for staff comes from a different part of the budget, than other things like capital outlay for example, fixing streets, etc. So the money IS there, it is just a matter of finding that correct column on the spread sheet to attach it to. COME ON NOW! Really? No wonder this city is in such a mess. Some of these guys should run for Congress, they're obviously real good about hiding pork.

Let's see - a new Asst. City Manager will cost us approx. 1/2 mill. The hope is to take over the public works portion of the Veolia Contract. I hope our city has done research on the options to remove any portion of the Veolia duties from it. All this while our city can not even meet our debt obligation this year and is planning to refinance more next year. Are we back in the same situation where our city manager is going to run the city or is our city commission going to start pulling in the reins? We just can't continue to spend, spend spend!

This hiring is ridiculous. Why did the City Commission not have to vote on this. Vernon is starting to look like Barnes.

The decision makers are all off to Washington D.C. at the AUSA meeting and sightseeing at JC taxpayers expense. What is changing in Junction City except the Mayor and the Managers names?

What will the AUSA do for Junction City Taxpayers? How will the City benefit from spending money to go there and 'schmooz' who and for what?
It apparently has not worked in the past- they keep on going back for more. How many times do you have to touch a 'hot' horse shoe'? It looks more than it takes when touching a hot stove. Or does it?

If our city commissioners don't rein in Mr. Vernon and explain to him who is running our city, we are going to have another Rod Barnes era. It sure seems like Vernon is building his empire at our expense. Poor decisions will get him FIRED.

Vernon is just like Barnes! He tries to keep the City Commission in the dark and runs things the way he want to.

I dont understand why the City Commission did not have to authorize the position.

In another nearby town, the quest for a city-manager type was approved years before but never filled. Then there was a change of the city group people and they up and decided to fill that position after all. They didnt tell the people either because they said it had been approved years before so they didnt need to. Well, they found out that people thought they should have brought in up for discussion anyway and the issue comes up time and time again now. Had it been addressed directly in the beginning, perhaps the bad feelings could have been avoided.

Tomorrow, Tuesday, I am going to contact the Kansas Secretary of State's Office for information and guidance in beginning a recall election of the three new commissioners. It is probably too late for Scott Johnson and Jack Taylor. We need to nip these three in the bud and throw them out before they can do any more damage. Then they should be closely followed by Gerry Vernon and Cheryl Beatty. The two of them are already pulling too many Rod Barnes/Stooge shenanigans behind closed doors. And that is exactly the oppopsite of what we were promised just not so long ago. Who the Hell does Gerry Vernon exactly think he is?!? It seems that Junction City tries and tries to get it right, but we keep getting saddled with losers, both elected and hired. Will it EVER end?!?
