Well with his election Democrats in the South angry and afraid he would further curtail or remove their Rights to Own Black Men, Women and Children first left the Union ( the very first fleebaggers ?) then began the Civil War when they fired on a Union fort.
WW I - Democrat President
WW II - Democrat President
Korea - Democrat President
Vietnam - first troops in under Truman and we went all in under Democrats Kennedy and Johnson
The only 2 times in history nuclear weapons were ever used against humans was by a Democrat and they were used against CIVILIAN populations at that.
(but Republicans send our kids to war. Right.)
Look at more recent history:

Nixon prolonged the Vietnam War

Reagan's incompetence led to the deaths of our Marines in Lebanon and he invaded Grenada to distract from it.

Bush I invaded Panama to captue his former buddy Noriega.

Bush I invaded Iraq to help his oil sheikh buddies.

Bush II invaded Iraq under false prenses.

Conservatives gripe about the US becoming secular, as if it`s evil. Look what happens at the other extreme, as evidenced by the Faith Tab sex scandals, Islamic jihad, the "Christian" Crusades, Arab/Israeli wars and unrest, etc. Religion has no place in our Government and to boast that the US is a Christian Nation is presumptious at best and an insult to other religions, atheists, and agnostics at best. What would happen if being a Christian was a prerequisite for military service, first responders, medical school, elderly care, teachers, doctors, professors, admission to colleges, etc ? The entire country would come to a grinding halt and we`d be taken over in no time, while the evangelical Christians clutched their Bibles, wailing in despair.

This has to be one of the few very intelligent comments that I have ever read on Topix.
Very Well stated
