Marysville, Ks. is the home of the Black Squirrel. They are equally unique to that area. Never see them any where else. the wonders of nature are lost on the average person.

There is another town that has the Black Squirrels. I used to work as a deckhand working on towboats on the Mississippi River. I saw 2 Black Squirrels playing at Rock Island, Illinois as we were waiting above Lock #15 for our lock turn. I was truly amazed at seeing them.

I find squirrel stew to be pretty delicious no matter what color the fur. It's all pink inside.

There are very few of them left in Marysville now. They got to be such a nuisance that they were catching them in live traps and hauling them out of town - my dad got one out on him farm - and now they are a rare sight in Marysville.

We have our annual "Squirrel Count" starting this weekend. Olney,IL. still has a bunch of them but nothing like 40 years or so ago.
