-----I gotta say, there's a hurting congregation, Ftabmember adds insult to injury with some very ugly comments, and when rebuked responds with "go get counseling." Where is this church of yours where the loves flows so freely, Tab??? Your brand of Christianity is a turn off to even me.
Up to now I was impressed with some of your points. But come on, is this empathy to you?
This is an open opportunity for those of us who name the name of Christ to support and reach out to these people. Not with judgement and name calling. How could we possibly win one person with that?
Statistically speaking if we haven't been in their shoes already we will be one day. Just sayin'.
My sympathetic post addressed the part of the congregation that recognizes that what their leadership did was cultish on the one hand and cruel on the other. These few folks will hopefully think twice about being in this kind of assembly to begin with, as it only creates the perfect environment for abuse on every level. The 'pastors' have no accountablility whatsoever and that's because they're worshipped as gods who are there to serve themselves and whip (or should I say scream) their sheeple into shape.
All the drama needs to stop. I know drama is a key element of these churches but it's time to find a church that is more concerned with preparing its people to go out and witness to a lost world. The people just don't need any more self-serving indoctrinatiion, instead, they need a pastor who preaches 'the whole counsel of God', which the Apostle Paul proclaimed he did not fail to preach to the people.
God knows we don't need any more secluded cults that separate themselves in every way from the communities they live in. We need Christians who know the difference between righteousness and self-righteousness. Christians who know how to humbly win souls for Jesus.
It takes great faith and a lot of courage to go find a good church, and these days they may be few and far between, but they're out there, and these people need a church that's happy and healthy and cares more for God and a lost world than for pleasing a self-serving man. May God help them.
