I am wondering if anyone else is feeling the same as I am, in that it is the same old same old over at City Hall. I hope others take a hard look at what are City Commissioners are looking to approve. I watch the City Commission meeting tonight and one say "Salaries, yes we looked it that, and we look at that......" Really did you really look ? Go back and look - the Administration, is getting the highest pay increases along with several others whom are on the inside group with the administration. Some of these increases are unfounded. I mean $7-11,000 increases in one year. This is poor government at its best ! Our streets and facilities are falling a part and yet we bury, Yes bury huge pay increases for a selected few. Must be we are returning to the Barns Administrative means under Ms Beatty. Sure hope we find a new CN soon before she buries more items under the City Commissions eyes

I, too, watched the meeting last night. In addition to all the big spending business as usual, did anyone else notice the forthright arrogance of Commissioners Landes and Sands. I would expect this from Pat Landes, but NOT Jim Sands. For a moment there, I had the passing thought that Pat Landes was drunk!! He will not return to this commission by my vote, should he chose to run for reelection. One time around with his is more than enough! And, yes, Cheryl Beatty is spending us into a deeper hole. More trips, conferences, large, unnecessary purchases (not talking about the Fire Department, here), and her thumbing her nose at the taxpayers. Maybe she is reading notes left behind by Rod Barnes!

Is the proposed budget online somewhere? I looked on the city site, but couldn't find it.

I for one don't trust her, thinking she is having a "free run" while being the acting CM. Didn't she hire the City's new Fire Chief and HR Director ? Must be setting the plate for herself, versus the new CM being allowed these critical personal matters. Didn't she get run out of town by three prior communities in KS ? In watching the City Commission meeting I am thinking most are clueless on how to run government or even the real costs to run a business. McCallister is clueless, and Sands is even more clueless and I can't tell have the time what Aska is even saying. It appears Beatty is having her way for now, I wonder is she one of the selected few whom will be getting one of the big wage increases (or as they like to call it wage adjustments, lol. My gut feeling is likely so along with a few others whom are on the inside of the old boy network, yet I bet very little will be provided to the rank and file.

Why should they place the detail budget online, so we the voters could see this, as is their way in which they can hinde the wage increases for the selected few, the special projects, pork funds, and other pet items in which Ms Beetty is running with while acting CM. Case in point her looking to get the City Commission to approve a $1.0 million dollar plus new building renovation for the Municipal Court, while trying to paint a picture how run down the existing building is. Of course the existing building will fall apart if one looks to not do anything maintenance wise. Come on guys, our City Commissioners aren't that dumb, or are they, as they sure did mess up spending $15,000 in engineering for the McFarland Sanitary Sewer Project, one in which no one wanted it. The guy whom they were trying to force to build didn't even have a contract for the engineering work, so once again the City ended up holding the bag. And I am so tired of hearing the Zoning Guy say "I have been doing this for 40 years, and my experience has been....", well if you have been doing this for that long how can one mess up so bad and waste $15k of the City's money on a project no one wanted ? I sure hope the City looks into this mess, yet thinking once again just JC's way of wasting more money in which we don't have.

Landes is pathetic! Sands is wishy washy. Who voted for these people?

The acting City manager is behind about half of this stuff that we are paying for the rest of our lives. I say fire her! She is partially responsible for the Oliva Farms mess.

I for one think she is on a power trip. Get out of our town you leech!

Huh??? "Half of the stuff..."? Olivia Farms??? She didn't even come on board until well after the huge mess was created (She came on after Gerry Vernon). MAYBE you can explain what you refer to, or are you just pulling things from your a**?

She came in yes as part of Gerry's team, yet she is on a power trip. Watch her at the City Commission meetings, she has something to say about and on everything. She is a know it all !

She is on her own power trip be it the hiring of the City's new Fire Chief and HR Director and steering & driving the process for the new CM. One would think these should of been left for the new City Manager to hire his own management team.

Finally what is she thinking on spending a million dollars on rehabbing the old Chamber building. Does she not know the debt and other needs of the City aka Fire Dept Trucks, streets etc.

I didn't say anything about this supposed "power trip", just pointed out that the poster's comments were made up.

As far as the new hires, the business of the city goes on, regardless of the presence of a city manager or an interim city manager. The city employees will have to meet the new manager's expectations whether they are new hires or 20 year employees. If they are not a fit someone will leave.

The other gripes that you have...directing the search for the new c.m. and spending issues, they are at the behest of the council. These are not things that any city manager can pursue on their own, interim or not. The real bi**h should be about getting to the state where the municipal court was in such disrepair. That falls on the shoulder's of past managers (it started well before Beatty achieved interim status)and councils.

I'm surprised that this Topix crowd hasn't called the sky the wrong shade of blue and blamed someone for that as well.

Well hell, half the time Aska can't understand what in the world he is saying himself! Too much scotch and chasing this chick around over at Court Services makes him very tired by the time these meetings roll around. There is nothing left but "mumble" by then.....

The term is "oy vey".
Old Yiddish.
It's an exclamation of woe.

"Oui" is French.
It's a word meaning agreement or permission as in "yes".

Why not just use the opera house. They are already funding it, there is plenty of seating in there and the judge can be up on stage. This is terrible spending $1M to add on to a new building. They let the old one go. Mold is awful hard to clean up and needs professionals that cost a whole lot of money. QUIT WASTING OUR MONEY!!!!! Utilize what we already have.

Or.....use the gym at the municipal building. They only need a room to secure files.

Are you blind ? Watch the city commission meetings. She is on a power trip and self serving and out for one and only one. Her track record speaks for itself. She is running the show and doing everything she can to set the stage for her. I have watched the city commission meetings and she is smoke and mirrors and it is not that the city must go on in hiring the new fire chief and hr director yet these position were vacant for months with others filling in, let the new CM fill these senior positions not some want a be CM. need facts look and see whom is in the top for planned huge raises Beetty for sure and a select few others. Enough said !$7-11,000 raises in one yr is a joke in these economic times. Self serving = Beetty. She has done this at the other three places in Kansas why not JC

In this one I must agree with others. City business and cities move on, yet interim City Managers don't go around hiring Senior Dept Heads (fire chiefs and HR directors). No question a power trip is going on here or maybe one, Beetty wanted to make sure she got her two cents in before the new CM arrived. That is crap in saying business goes on... The City would of run fine had these hiring a been delayed until October.

The real issues are not the court house, it is the picture one tried to paint before the City Commission in needing to spend $1.0 million dollars plus, versus having any type of costs in completing repairs which Beetty has I am sure delayed in order to paint her picture on needing a new building. This is fact, watch the budget videos !

Craziness $7-11,000 raises for a select few at City Hall ! Sounds like they are running things just like the school district - we don't have any money yet we can afford nice fat raises for the Administration, cause you can bet the rank and file at the City won't be seeing any of this. I don't care if one says we pay the lowest in Kansas, others don't have the debt and taxes we do either.

Get real City !
