Pat Landis is a fat assed, filthy rich hospital bitch that thinks taxing the shit out of everyone is the answer to the citys problems. He needs to resign and then go see a brain surgeon for a functioning brain. If you ever wondered what happened to the dorkie, nerdy guy you use to beat up in high school, now you know.

I think he is the best thing happening in this town. Talk about a bunch of back ass fools. The old school boy network is a live and well. The city's infrastructure is falling apart and our streets are a mess. However I don't see any solutions only cuts in the budgets. This is a joke. JC is deserving everything it gets.

Nothing will change. We got Beety running the show and being a yes mammy lady and giving no solutions. We got even the city commission cutting our own streets budget. What don't they get. Fix the streets !! And yes it is a joke in which to watch our budget hearings as the city commission is as clueless as Ms Beetty

Refrain from even voting on this annex program. He is self serving and just doesn't get it. Why should the wholes in the city be filled. This whole thing is embarrassing and a joke

One who has any. The rest are just plain dumb on the subject matter. This kind of activity is done all over the country and in Kansas. The other four Commissions are just to dumb to truly understand it. Clean up the town make the areas cleaned up and let's more on from the vocal minor. This process is long over due. And again Pat is the only one who has any in which to stand up the the vocal minor. It is about time !

This type of forced annexations are NOT being done all over Kansas. As a matter of fact, Douglas County (Lawrence) refrains in policy from forcing annexations. Olathe annexed 7 square miles at the protest of the residents but it turned out their taxes went DOWN. Not the case here. Look yourself and you won't find any other community that annexes land in and does nothing for the roads or services. This action is just stupid and will cause more debt to the city and will neglect the looming infrastructure repairs.
This is the way it started with Mick Wunder. Landes is working for somebody to push annexation against the will of the majority. He was voted down by the majority at the last commission meeting. Ask him where and who is building his new house.

Anyone have any idea on what they plan to annex?

Mostly the west side of town. They did this in 2006 claiming to "straighten" the border. Over 1300acres, some petitioned some by force the lots that won't sell were in most of this. Rod Barnes was city manager then and when asked by the commission if this would be all that was needed he replied "yes". Now Landes says the same thing. This is because Kansas law has many provisions for annexing but this is the only thing that works for him. I have the maps from when Vernon was the city manager and the land they were wanting then was all over the outside of the city. The sand plant down 77 towards the lake, farmland west of town, highway 77, etc., etc. Kansas statutes would not allow many of these but they wanted to spend money they didn't have on it then too I would imagine he (Landes) would still try all that now. Forced annexations can get real expensive real fast. There is a provision that says if ANYONE is aggrieved by such annexations they can file in district court and sue the city. Based on the existing debt and the lack of promised infrastructure on already annexed land the city would most likely lose. How much does Katy Logan charge for court appearances and legal action if forced to fight to annex a few properties? Read Kansas statutes 12-519, 12-520, 12-520a, 12-520b.

Doesn't the county also have to approve annexation? If so, isn't it time they stop throwing their residents under the bus?

There are provisions in statute on permission for certain lands and acreage but it is limited. The problem is that the county attorney has in the past advised the county they cannot protest annexations. That being said some of the aforementioned statutes have change since. The statutes I refer to are on the Kansas legislature website. Just type in the number in the appropriate area and this will tell you for sure. You can bet I will try to read it sometime today.

I commend Landes. He is the only one whom gets it. The rest are following the vocal minority. I agree there are kansas law for annexation. There also is a fairness issue. I agree the city needs to look at these properties and if they are getting services for free than they should be annexed. Why should we pay 100% for for those on one side of the street for their police, fire, ems and street maintenance? This is only commen since. Thanks Pat for having the where all and guts to keep persuing this as other will not and won't. You have my vote!

McFarland Road is part of that swiss cheese. Annex that street in before they annex anything else in. There was just a big fiasco over that when new housing was going to go in and they had to put in a septic system.

The city should have annexed McFarland in, but in sewer and water and the builder could have put 5 new houses up instead of two.

So until they annex McFarland into the picture, leave everyone else alone.

Start a yearly fee for those addresses not annexed in - for the services of police, fire and ambulance. Or.....don't provide services. That is what the county sherrif, county fire department is for.

Our fire department has maps, they will know if they are within city limits or not.

That's already being done. County fire handles county fires, county deputies handle county police calls - now and then there is some confusion about which is which but dispatch generally sends the right crew out to a call - and the ambulance covers county and city and gets funded by both.

So why is Landis belly aching about sending fire department across the street from a residence that is in the city. Obviously someone isn't looking at the map when the call comes through. Their fault, suck it up city.
