Just my opinion but I had to get up for work the next day and people in my neighborhood basically ignored the cut off time for shooting fireworks. 1 AM they were still making noise. No courtesy whatsoever.

Curfew in city parks is ignored also, allowing the fireworks to go on all night. I don't know if fireworks should be banned, because it seems many people enjoy them. But if we're going to keep allowing it, then let's put some real teeth into violations of the ordinance. How about 100 for the first violation, 500 for the second, let it go up by 1000 for every violation after. If it's a juvenile breaking the law, then make the parents responsible. That would raise a lot of money for the city. Then we have to get the police to enforce the rules, and that may be the hardest part.
I've been working 10 hour days outside for 11 straight days,(including this Fourth) in the sun with no chance to go into ac. I get up very early for work, and get home late. I don't mind, I chose my trade. But common decency from my fellow citizens, combined with common sense from the city commission, would make my Fourth Of July's much better.

Curfew was 11:00. The fools wers just plain ignorant to go past that.

Since they were up so late shooting off fireworks, I bet it is the welfare people. They can't can't pay their bills, but sure can afford fireworks.

What a jerkwad! You don't know, so you're willing to bet. You would be willing to bet on a three-legged dog in a horse race and still want to talk like you know what the best horse is.

Yes, people shot them off well into the night. Yes, I had to get up early for work too. It's one of the only times during the year they get to do it, so what's the real harm? And too, do we really want to use our police force to chase down firecrackers and bottle rockets? Why not a new division to just measure grass during the day and chase fireworks at night?

There is waaaaaaaay too much worrying about the small stuff.

It's not one night, it's over a week. We have an ordinance against loud music, but somehow it's ok to set off large explosives until 3 am.
I'm sure none of this has anything to do with undue influence from people who sell fireworks.

I don't mind fireworks, in fact, I think they are cool. Unfortunately, July 4 fell on a Monday this year and next year it falls on a Wednesday. I as well as others have to work the next day. My problem is that the curfew was completely ignored by several people right around my house. What's the harm? Nothing as long as they cool it when the law says cool it. But no one around me did that. Total disrespect.

I remember Dec `99 and all the fireworks for the new Millenium fondly. New Years Eve was a rare winter night in the 50`s, perfect for fireworks. We should do fireworks city wide every New Years to bring in badly needed revenue. Also, Y2K disaster never happened that night. Just great fireworks. Let`s not wait 88 1/2 years to do it again. At 130, I will be just reaching retirement age by future standards.

That's Junction City for you. Always catering to the welfare, trailer trash, redneck, hillbilly, can't pay my rent fireworks shooters.

If we could just get them together to rebel against property taxes, we could fix that problem too.

Yes, trashy assed people shooting fireworks with no teeth. All of them shop at Wal Mart too.

Trash all over the streets as they do NOT clean up after their GHETTO asses either.

Riley Manor should be burned down!

If you lived in GreenHills like old JC Smart, instead of Riley Manor, you wouldn`t have that problem. Just ask him.

What about the sausage plant that puts off continuous irritating sound and blows smelly thick smoke 24/7 why is that never addressed by JC I know surrounding business owners and property owners have complained over and over but they seem to be exempt from the ordinances and laws.

How bout lets talk about the stress these fireworks in neighborhoods do to the pets in the area. Pets are in a high anxiety state the whole week the fireworks are allowed to be shot off in the neighborhoods. Those who go past the curfew give no relief at all to the pets around them, or those who live with them. Since the fireworks ordinances are not enforced at all, why even bother to have them. Common courtesy is not something considered by this part of the state, obviously. And if you think the only time fireworks go off is in July, come by our area. And look out at NY Eve. Once you have left over firecrackers, the temptation is too great to not fire them throughout the year. More surprises for the neighbors and the pets.

I'm glad this post ended. Your pets are fine and you will get your sleep. I'm no welfare child and I obey the law and cut off times. It's called good parenting. We don't need more policing or new laws. We need to reach out to our neighbors when there are not problems so when there are we can talk civil to each other. We need to be a community and step out and take back Junction City. When was the last time you helped the guy down the street? Maybe it's his kids and he's working so hard he is sleeping and doesn't know they are out. We can all do a lot more to make Junction City better. More laws require more police officers or more overtime which requires higher taxes.

Bob , I`m extending my annual invitation to join me at Heritage Park with the rest of this great community to salute the birth of our Nation . I`ll even buy the "overpriced" 16 ounce cans of ice cold beer and any other foods or refreshments , as a way of extending the olive branch and honoring your vast contributions to the community and society in general . So , what do say , Bob ? You`re not going to bail to Manhattan or Lawrence and snub your neighbors again , are you ? Come on , Bob . Don`t be rude , man.

How about lets talk about thunder and lightning scaring pets then.

I agree with a ban. Unsafe, annoying to those who do work and are trying to sleep, and pets do get scared with the loud noise. Enjoy the 4th at the park instead. 4th of. July is on the 4th and not the entire week.

Got to get up at 4am. Fireworks everywhere. Guess the city commissioners are getting their cut of the proceeds. This town sucks. I'm gone as soon as I can.

Ok, we're going to split into five teams. Each team will go blow $100 at the local fireworks tent. Be sure and get stuff that's real loud. Each team will pick a commissioner and go shoot fireworks off outside their house until well after curfew. Continue nightly until the law is changed or at least enforced. Should take three days, four tops.
