So did you hear about the mass shooting at a middle school in Atlanta yesterday?

No, because it was stopped after the first shot by an ARMED GUARD.

If you can't keep the guns out of the hands of the mentally ill, at least have the decency to protect your children with armed guards like the elitists in DC do.

The guard was off duty and did not draw his weapon - so what is your point?

Poor reading skills, huh?

"An armed off-duty Atlanta police officer who works at the school subdued the shooter and had him drop his weapon, Police Chief George Turner said."

First of all, the "off duty" Atlanta police officer works for the school in his down time. Much like the armed security guards in Topeka, USD 501.

So the point would be, having a trained, armed, off-duty policeman as security in the school was effective in this case.

Just because you have a gun doesn't automatically mean you have to use the gun. The implied threat is often enough to recoil criminals.

It wouldn't have mattered if it was an armed guard or not in this case, the report show one teen possibly a gang member went after one specific person. He wasn't after anyone else and basically gave up without a fight, or should I say he was easily subdued.

You stated "the "off duty" Atlanta police officer works for the school in his down time."
According to every story I read online, that's not quite true. He is a School Resource Officer, which means he is assigned to the school. He was off duty when it happened, he isn't working for the school as a second job.

Armed guards didn't help matters in Columbine now did it

The idea armed guards are a panacea is simplistic. The victim in James Von Brunn's assault on the Holocaust Museum was an armed guard.

Sad state of the world that it's come to having to do this & kids cannot be safe in a classroom.

"It will be a sad day for this country if children can safely attend their classes only under the protection of armed guards"
