Yeah, go out of town to buy the products you need. That's the ticket for helping this town and the local economy. Whatever.

Shut up......If local stores want us to shop here then they should keep their service and prices in line with out of town places. I agree with the comment about someone driving to Atwoods. It is sad when we cna save money ( even considering gas prices) by shoping out of town for almost everything.

So because the powers that be in this town don't do shit for us, we're supposed to also turn our backs on the local merchants that are trying to make a living. Yeah, that's gonna really help. Come on now, it's not the merchants fault that we have a bunch of idiots running the government around here.

Sad. I bought a lot of feed corn, rice bran there. My son never got tired of their old joke "you want buck corn or doe corn"

Unfortunately, volume rules. If you can move volume you can keep the margins lower. It's just not possible to pay employees, vendors etc. with what little they make in a small town.
Just an opinion

Shut up yourself. Stores like Hollingsworth are small privately owned businesses that can't compete with large retail outlets like Atwoods who can buy in large quantities and keep the price lower. It's called the "WALMART" syndrome and when people are willing to leave the small businesses behind for a few cents savings, that's what causes these small businesses to fail. Atwoods in Magnolia and Crossett can buy 100 pallets of feed where Hollingsworth can only buy 5...of course Atwoods is going to be cheaper because of the quantity they buy. BTW, while you're over in Crossett visiting your Atwoods store, swing by the Murphy gas pumps in the WalMart parking lot. Their gas price last Sat was $2.31/gal. while us lucky folks in El Dorado were paying $2.49/gal. Damn I love this town!

This sounds like a good downtown business opportunity for Dick & Verty Mason.

It would be your fault along side all the others that don't get involved and stand up for what they believe in or often many don't even vote. The Officials of this area are voted in and if people want to change what's going on they are going to have to stick their neck out a little and speak up at council meetings, vote and help the guy they think should be in office get there and stop handing these offices back to the same old familiar face. Nothing ever changes from people just sitting back and grumbling. I hate paying higher prices too, but Americans are gonna have to start at home. Buy what you can local, don't go broke but don't give up on El Dorado yet. There are great and smart people right here. They just need your faith and support.

After reading all the thoughts of everyone I guess we should just all move to China and saving the shipping charges. This is not the America I once stood so proudly as a child and said my pledge to the American flag and all I thought it stood for. What is it gonna take to make people wake up and stand up. We are Americans, the greatest Country in the world. We can overcome anything.

Now Snoop, where did I say that I don't get involved and don't stand up for what I believe in? How did you get that from what I posted???
Of course we need to hold our elected and appointed officials accountable for their actions, or non-actions that is, on the local, state and national levels. However, I don't think the local government has anything to do with the feed store closing. It's the sad state of the economy and the fact that some people would rather travel for miles and save a few pennies than support a local business. So, I guess we agree on the point you made about the local business owners needing our faith and support. No matter what business it may be, we need to support those in El Dorado that are trying to hand on during these hard times.

El Dorado is a small town without the small town values. Go to "most" small towns....under 30,000. The people will go out of their way to shop local. We are so happy about our Home Depot, Office Depot, and Applebees we can't stand ourselves. The fact of the matter is the service in localy owned businesses is better than any of those places. Ken's, El Dorado Printing, and several local owned places are the answer. Shop local and watch the local economy pick up. Locally owned business put almost 70% of the money spent in their store back in the local economy. Franchised or corporate stores put less than 30%% back. I am sure most people won't care because they want to feel "metropolitan" but there are my 2 cents.

Ken's... you have got to be joking. He has got to be the rudest business owner in this town besides Bilo that owns house of wylie. Local service needs to improve and maybe people wouldn't mind paying a little more for their products.
