You know, sometimes stupidity just pisses me off.

Amen! I'll be joining you shortly atop the BoB, with a portable heater and a bottle of spirits for the cold weather. Where is Menck? Would love a response to this one from the poet.

Did no one notice that the story prompting all this comes out of the city of Booneville, Prentiss *County,* Mississippi, and not the town of Prentiss, Jefferson Davis County, Mississippi?

Please see post #2, now I feel that was meant for me........geez.

Well of course I did, Menck. Comprehension doesn't go a long way with that litteracy program of the sheriff's. Hence, the pissed-offEDness prompted by stupidity. |

Stupidity on whomever's part aside, I used to think consolidating the county public schools was the right way to go. I no longer think so. My concern now would be where the money for such a project would come from.
While I'd rather build a new school than a new jail, it is striking to me that the Super Viziers don't see it that way. It is also striking to me that the first new "vision" our young superintendent had was a new, half-million dollar building for him and his staff because they were, if memory serves correctly, "on top of one another" in their offices. Heavens, I remember when we all went to schools that actually taught us something, schools that were administered from offices smaller than my living room. |

Ok If a new school was proposed for the county, would any of you support it? I'm more than certain that the answer would be no. Y'all would have something negative to say about the school bond issue. I know first hand how bad we need a new school. It breaks my heart when my children come home and say that they couldn't wash their hands because of lack of soap or paper towels in the bathroom, but I can say they are receiving an education. My oldest son has been tested from an outside source and is way smarter than any of us will ever be and some of that has come from our educational system right here in this county. So why don't y'all stop harping on the negative and be positive. Remember you can run from your problems, but they will eventually find them.
My answer would be a big, fat NO if having a new school came at the cost of the county going into a big, fat debt. If my answer is saying "something negative" about a school bond issue, so be it. I suspect, though, that you are dealing the race card from the bottom of the deck here, and "something negative" means opposing a new school because it would serve mostly black children. You would be incorrect if you surmised that. I never hear of that problem at PC, and their finances are just as tight if not more so than JDC schools. Further, I've noticed that PC doesn't have trouble keeping glass in its windows for some reason. Prentiss public schools, though, look like prisons what with sheet metal covering the windows of the gyms and the old high school building. Windows on the new high school building, I'm told, are bullet-resistant. Those windows were still shot at within a week of the new building's opening, and some of them had to be replaced. It took the school district over a month to replace the glass that had the bullet pockmarks in them. Negative? Perhaps. True? Assuredly. That's nice. An A student in the US is, at best, a high C student in any Asian country and many European countries. Negative? Perhaps. True? Most assuredly. Remember, the optimist says "We live in the best of all possible worlds"; the pessimist sighs and says, "I'm afraid that's true." I'm not sure what you mean. Please elaborate, and get that whipsmart oldest boy of yours to help you with this. |

Just as I expected, negative. And just so you know I'm white, and it would be serving my white children.
I noticed you did not address the broken windows, bullet ridden covered windows and lack of supplies. If the present educational facilities cannot be maintained, what reason would there be to construct a new one? New walls with bullet marks will not help educate any child, black or white, so let's skip the race calling and find a solution for what we have now. Has the PTA explored the option of monitoring the restrooms and bringing in basic supplies? What control measures are in place to keep the school safe? These are issues that are more important than building a new school.

Just as *I* expected: You didn't really read what I posted. You made an assumption. I, I, I, me, me, me, that is the tenor of your post. Who said anything about *your* black children. It matters to me not a wit what race they or anyone else's children are. My post clearly states you would be incorrect if you assumed that I opposed a new school because it served mostly blacks. I oppose your new school (that is not even in the planning stage) because there is no way to pay for it without going into debt. "Curious" was exactly right and to the point in her post: you tellingly sidestep the vandalism that seemingly goes on as a matter of course at PHS while PCS has some buildings that are almost 40 years old and still in fine shape. How can this be? Please tell me. Remember: It isn't negative simply because someone disagrees with you. |
ok Mencken go back to your court reporting now, we've had enough.
The truth is you don't want to hear the real problems, now do you? PHS is still lagging behind, not because of lack of funds, just lack of parental involvement which is not the case with PCS. It's parents that make a student successful with the help of teachers not the other way around.

Planning stage no, but that seed has been planted. I'm sure we'll be hearing more of this in the coming days. |

The reason there is no soap or paper towels in the bathrooms at the public schools in JDC is because the students abuse them. They tear the dispensers off the wall and trash the place. They throw the toilet paper in the commodes and back them up. |

Adulthood brings about jailhouse destruction. Then when they become supervisors and sheriffs they demand brand new building (at tax payers expense) for their offsprings to carry on the legacy. Ah the circle of life.
you should know. |
Until there is dicipline in the JD county school system, I will not support any resolution to build. Unitl there is a tax base to support these kinds of construction projects, I will not support any resolution to build. I will not support any resolution which raises my taxes above the level they are already at.
And for Curious 2 & 3, can you think up your own screen names instead of mooching somebody elses? |

The original "curious" thanks you very much. You are right on in your opposition, which I totally agree with.
