I just needed a chance to vent. Supposedly there are all of these organizations out there that collected money and/or materials to help rebuild this town. Supposedly there was going to be all this help to get our homes rebuilt. This is what sold me on the idea of even coming back to Oakville. But six months after the flood, little is being done in my home and many others. It seems that if you have time to sit at the community building and complain, things will get done. Or if you have money.
Here is the thing, my family moved to Oakville because the cost of living here was so much cheaper even with the cost of commuting. My family has eaten up our entire savings, used what little FEMA money we were granted and we still have leaps and bounds to go before completing my house. I feel like I was mislead into coming back to Oakville and now I am in to deep to turn around and get out. Even the government programs are a joke. You have to jump through so many hoops and even once you have done that, you get put on a waiting list and you have to wait longer. Meanwhile, you cram your family in to a government provided mobile home and tromp through miles of mud just waiting to see when the roads will flood again (today already) and if all of your time and efforts was wasted for the past six months. |

You received a government mobile home?!! You have someone to go to complain?!! Is the man of the "house" healthy? Did everyone of your household survive? My... aren't you fortunate.../The only ones you can depend upon are Thee Almighty and yourselves. Faith in governments and agencies for help are way misplaced. I hope you have food everyday, clothes on your backs, and somekind of roof over your heads. I wish I could do more for you than just pray for all of the flood victims of Iowa, and the poor lost animals.-Randy- Louisiana
