Does anyone know the person's name that was convicted in the deaths of Deputy Sheriff Luis L. Garza nd his wife back in 1973? I know the suspect originally received the death penalty, but later it was reversed to 99 years. I am doing some research, and anyone who can remember would be very helpful.

his last name is Leonard Freeman. His sentence was commutted to life when the death penalty was abolished in the 70's. He got out of prison on parole last year and is an old man. He lives in the Beeville area now.

The death penalty is back, the guy should have been executed instead of released. He murdered a man and his wife, that qualifies him as a POS in my book. You feel sorry for him because he's an old man? I am sure officer Garza and his wife would have enjoyed getting old instead of murdered. Do me a favor and save your sympathies for those who deserve it.

I agree 100%...he IS a POS...he should have been executed. Who said they feel sorry for him or had sympathy for him? I simply said he is an old man...which he is.

I heard about that story. It literally seems like something out of a scary movie. I can't imagine the fear those poor people must have felt. It's so sad and I cannot believe that man is out. They should have killed him long ago. The world would have one less piece of crap in it. To the family, I know no matter how many years go by it doesn't get any easier. May god bless u and the souls of these two innocent people.

The jury should have sentenced him instead so that is the reason he got life instead. Also he does not live i'n Beeville anymore, he now resides i'n SN Antonio by Sea World

Leon Freeman, as he goes by, lives in the San Antonio, TX area. He remarried, and has been living it up. His victim and his wife are still dead, obviously, but he lives seemingly guilt-free and visits jails to preach. You never know who you're talking to...
