What if...The drug manufacturers had to compensate the local police departments for every arrest made involving their product? Or. What if they had to provide a facility...modern in all its equipment and appointments...staffed with educated personel trained to deal with addicts? Or. What if...before Manufacturers were allowed to market an addicting drug they also had to have available antidotes or anti addicting drugs available.
Pipe dream...yep, I know.

It would help if the drug manufacturers were banned from advertising any drugs - just like the cigarette manufacturers, but I guess that's just another pipe dream too .

Well, I feel personally that each and every person is responsible for their own life. We have enough government control. Besides nothing you say or do will stop people from doing something they want to do. Look at prohibition of alcohol..all that accompolished was to make gangsters rich and turn them into murderers. It's time for people to take care of themselves. A methadone clinic on every street corner won't help if a person don't want to stop drugs.

I agree. In the commercials it says, "Tell your doctor about ______". Shouldn't your doctor be telling YOU what you need, not the other way around. If you are telling your doctor what you need, that just makes the doctor a drug dealer, not a medical practitioner.

I have to admit, I stole this line of thinking from Bill Maher, my personal hero.:)

The sad part about the whole thing is the fact that one of the women had robbed a drugstore in Pineville, then went to Beckley and tried the same thing the next day - that's when she got caught. She should never have been allowed probation after two crimes.

I agree and how about the side effects...the add will go on and on but the voice speaks 90 words a second. LOL!
When they say "side effects may be an erection lasting for more than four hours"...A lot of men said, "hell yes" to that one. Talk about apeal!....but then started having heart attacks.
Didn't mean to be so frank! Pardon me!

Take Charge states: A methadone clinic on every street corner won't help if a person don't want to stop drugs.

what is the purpose of giving an addict more pills to get them off some they are already on? Oh wait, my bad, legally get them high. That is what most of them are going to the methadone for. They don't want off just more pills. What happened to the days of putting them in an institution and detoxing them. If they really want off of them they'll stop and if not then they'll go right back to it. If the government would stop handing out pills on the medical card then alot of it would stop anyway. Make them take their checks and pay for their oxys and whatever else they are sniffing up their noses and they will either stop or starve to death. Either way the problem will be solved. One less drug dealer to deal with in this town. I'm tired of going to bed at night wondering what is going to be gone when I wake up so the people in my area can get high. Everyone wants to bitch and gripe and no one wants to stand up and do anything about it. I also know that we as a group can not change the world, but the government agencies paying for the meds and the government agencies that are supposed to be controlling the meds can. When you can tell me that 5 out of 5 methadone users are drug free 5 yrs from now then I will think a methadone clinic is worthy and until then I will still say "Why give an addict more drugs to legally get high with?" If you would like to read up on Methadone go here http://www.opiatesrx.com/suboxone.php
altho it is not intended to get high with, how many people are shooting up with it snorting it and taking more than needed just for the "fix"?

You can't snort or shoot methadone.Methadone is just a way for the govenment to try to exercise some kind of control over drug addicts. One thing I can't understand is why they give it to cocaine addicts.
