First of all I can say I know plenty about Rhodell. Second I did see a dirty needle not far from that playground. Take your kids there if you want to, I just said I wouldnt take mine there. I could probably name a couple people who go to that park that I can say dont do drugs, but the rest I know are dealers or do'ers. What exactly is the people from N.C. teaching your kids? If they are teaching them about God thats something you should do yourself, take them to the Churches down there on Wed. & Sun. instead of only telling them about God once a month. Are they teaching them to say NO TO DRUGS? If they are, that also is your responsibility, and you could start by keeping them away from places that you know its at and the people who does them and sales them. I dont want to'' DOG'' anybody as you put it but its the truth. You cant hardly walk in Rhodell without seeing a dealer or do'er.

It isn't surprising when people strip houses that have been foreclosed. I still look at it as stealing, regardless. I mean, when you buy a house, the plumbing and electrical are there. When you can't pay and the bank takes the house back, why take the plumbing and electrical? That stuff belongs to the bank, and should be there for whoever buys the house. Bizarre.
In any case, I'd be interested to know any info on that house. Also any info on any other houses in town that might be for sale? I'm just looking for a no-drama, quiet place where I can study while in school, and maybe do a little soil research, as well.
I'm also curious: why are drugs such a problem in Rhodell?
Why are drugs such a problem anywhere? The problem with Rhodell is the City Hall. Mayor is a dealer and his woman is a do'er. Now I ask you, have you found out enough or a you still seriously considering moving there?

Umm, my facts ARE straight ... I've taken my own children there and guess what ... I NEVER WILL AGAIN. Yeah, it's exactly how I've described and yes they druggies DO do their thing there ... and everywhere else. I know about the church from NC ... and about everybody who goes to get free stuff when most of them get pretty much EVERYTHING for free. I also know about how some of the churchfolk from out of state have said that people from Rhodell are unbelievable ... gluttonous ... greedy. Oh yes, I absolutely DO have my facts straight. It's not hard to figure out that town. I will say, there are a few decent people; however, the indecent far exceed the decent. I wouldn't advise anyone to move there.

Well, surely you wouldnt be getting a little huffy now would you? Really, lets try to be adults about this. I do not have anything against Rhodell or its residents. I am only pointing out what it is. Drugs are even where I live, they are everywhere. Some places just a little worse than others. I'm not trying to fix anything, your town or mine for that matter. I just wouldnt recommend anyone moving there when there are so many other options. I did live there at one time but it was a different place then. There are still a few good residents living down there. Now if you feel the need to keep getting upset it will obvious to everyone here that you cant carry on an adult discussion without losing your cool. The only thing that I have been even remotely rude about is Joseph and Carla, and thats because they are a disease on that town and on people who have to work so thier sorry a$$ can lay around and do drugs and draw a check. Like I said there are still good people down there, I can give you the names of the few who are good people but I dont feel the need to post these peoples names on this thread because no matter what everyone down there has something against someone and then it would just turn into a big bashing party.

The house is up a little hill off the main road and the only neighbor is Jacky Sargent. The house is pretty old ... as I understand it once like the railroad boss's house. Someone once told me that it was like an historical landmark. Drugs are a problem because people are weak-minded and instead of trying to better their lives when things go wrong, the try to numb themselves. The numbing wears off, though, and they are again faced with reality ... so they numb themselves again instead of dealing with the issues and moving forward. They get addicted ... and then they do whatever they have to do in order to keep their drugs

Maybe, Just maybe, A few decent people moving into the town just might make a difference. Sometimes a little outside influence helps revitalize a place. Create one, two, or three worth while jobs in Rhodell. Open a gas station, a convenience store, heck, if you really care, maybe even have a phone call center like the one in Sophia might help turn things around for the town as a whole.

I would agree, Rhodell used to be a really booming place. Several businesses was in town. Gas station, 2 or 3 little stores and even a tavern. There was a game room for the kids to go to. Those were the good days in that town. There was even a crime watch that people volunteered to do. I had alot of good times as a kid living there. Just not the same place it used to be. Everything is gone now. Somebody did open a store not long ago, just couldnt make it work I guess and it was just closed down. Not all the Rhodell residence are interested in building that place back up. The way I understand it the town is broke and the street lights was gonna be cut off, if that happens the town will just go plum under and nobody will be able to keep nothin when dark comes. Rhodell lost the best mayor they ever had when Sherry Blankenship passed away. She was putting the town on its feet and runnin things the right way. I wish all the Rhodell residence good luck and they should ban together and do something for their community to improve the way things are. Everytime they witness a drug sale or drug buy or something being vandalized or stolen call the drug enforcement agency and report it. Turn these dealers in and make it so hard on them that they either go out of business or they move somewhere eles with their business. Nobody can do it themselves but if the community would help each other they can get things accomplished.

There's not much point in reporting the ones who are doing wrong because the good old mayor is up to his neck in it himself and he uses his little police force too. Call center? Not likely. Stores? They've all been burned down. Nobody in their right minds are going to try to bring or build their business in Rhodell. That would be a HORRIBLE business decision. Even the post office is being closed down. Down, down, down with that place.

I know all to well about Mr. Mayor and his woman. I never dreamed he would ever do what he's doing. Sherry was a good woman and I cant imagine him ever being with that pillhead he's with. Oh well, i agree with you, it's going down, down, down. I even find it hard to believe Tish can work around that mess.

I know all of that is true, except I always thought Joe was a pretty good guy. Wasnt he in church? I have never known him to be a bad person but maybe you know him better than me. But all the rest I agree with you. They are still good people down there, its just changed so much. I've read alot of junk about Pat, Annie and Micky that I find hard to believe. I dont know Annie that well but she seems like a nice person. Everyone has problems in a marriage its people around the situation that usually make it worse than it is by telling gossip. Pat, I have never had trouble with her, shes ok in my book. Like I said, still good people down there just a few bad ones. Everybody should just stay out of others business and try to clean that place up.

I'm thinking of buying a small place in Rhodell. Can anyone tell me about how it is to live there? Is the air clean? Is it pretty safe? I've never lived near coal mines before, and am wondering if there are any problems with landslides or cave-ins, etc. I'd appreciate any information. Thanks!!

Its name is Rhodhell not Rhodell. Thieves, whores and dope heads. A big flood needs to wash that shit hole away. But its the same with every coal town surrounded by land companies. The ones that wanted to work left. The remainders deal, use and sell. For the few decent people that live there I apologize.
