Every time I revisit what the council has done I feel they must be on life support. Where do they get their hair brained ideas? What an embarrassment.

Not by their standards. It's just everyday life in Rockwall. Try to learn to live with it. You will drive yourself crazy thinking things will change. Always been inbred politics here, and probably will stay that way.

So much money to be made. Even on the commissioner's level. Just ask the "judge". You are right, embarrassing.

The choice to build "the Harbor" was a poor choice by the council. Bass Pro would have been sooooo much better here instead of the location it is now. And, the Harbor would not be looking into the financial hole it has created, with the help of the council.

That's because 10-20 people are the sole influence on a weak council. If 20-30 concerned citizens got involved, it would change. Nothing will change if you don't get in the game.

As stated by Ben in another thread.......
Council members are just here to make Rockwall a better place. Their decisions are, of course, subject to the Community Elders’ approval, but that in no way gives us reason to question any decision they ultimately make. If you don’t like progress, your opinion doesn’t matter; you’re free to move on down the road to some place that appreciates anarchy and instability. Everyone here knows that you have to give up some individual liberty for the greater good; that’s how we get smoke-free restaurants and fabulously high property values.

But, if you get involved, GoRockwall has this to say...
I am saying stop complaining and do something for the good of the town. No council is perfect but this town has a lot more to offer than many others around here and around the country. If we lived in Detroit, I would agree with you that things are bad. Rockwall is a good place to live...stop bashing it. If things are too bad to handle move to another town. It is that easy.

And as Rockwall Citizen pointed out....

There never will be any changes if no one tries. It will not be an easy task to speak up because the small minded people will try to shout you down.

I do not believe for one minute council members are just here to make Rockwall a better place. Most of the members are here for their own pockets. Second, for the agrandisement. Third, just to be noticed, as is the instance of the, want to be mayor, attorney on the council. They have made many mistakes, and building the Harbor is just one of the many.

Paying for new boat docks already? Why weren't the first docks built to withstand weather and included more docks? Just another way to spend, spend, spend. The council members would have one believe it's just a little money. Yeah, right out of the citizens pockets. Can't wait for terms to be up.

One Vote, Rockwall Citizen, Republican Voice, whatever ----

You are preaching to the choir, and we hear you... now talk to the city council members.

Get off the bench and contribute to the city.
Get in the game and make a difference by talking to the council members on a regular basis. Let them know how you feel about their decisions and help dilute the voices of that 10-20 people influencing the city council. Without your involvement nothing will change. Exercise your First Amendment right. Consider running for a city council position if you think you could do better than the current council members. You could be right.

The lack of leadership at city hall is part of a cycle. Eventually someone with good leadership skills and common sense will run for office and get elected and things will improve. Rockwall is a bad placed to live but I think most people would agree that we do have one of the more bone-headed city councils around! I've read the postings at here and nothing ever changes. There seems to be one group of people that love to bash former mayors and council members while another group seems bent on bashing the lawyer guy currently on the council. Most people probably haven't live here long enough to remember when Harry Meyers was the mayor but things weren't much different back then. The city had no money and operated on a shoe string budget and YES they still managed to make dumb decisions with the resources they had! Looking at things now, the city is flush with sales tax money (they can't spend it fast enough) and we're all still complaining about all of the ignorant things they are doing (205 bypass, Harbor, high dentsity apartments, etc...)

I see each and every one of you on a frequent basis. Not a single one of you has talked to me about an issue or contacted me at any time with your issues. You instead write untruths as a form of amusement.

How about paying the second time for boat docks at the "Council's Harbor?" The annexation of LRE was a HUGE mistake. How about the apartment complex that is by Brookshire's that went to auction that the mayor and the council just knew would be a success? Previous natatoriums built by other cities have closed because of upkeep. Did you really think Rockwall would be different? How much more do you want to hear? Talking to you or any other council member or mayor would be a waste of time. You and the rest will never admit a mistake or lack of judgement. Yes, the whole council is NUTS.

Bravo.........but the natatorium was built by RISD not the city. Let's not forget about the $30M+ courthouse that the commissioner's court decided to build in spite of the voters telling them "NO" two times. The city council, school board or commissioner's court will never admit a mistake or lack of judgment. Yes, the whole council is NUTS. Also school board and commissioner's court is just as nuts. If you disagree, wait until you receive you tax bills in the next several years when the tax rate increases to pay for everything.

Original Harbor Docks were a mistake. Current council had nothing to do with The Commons--doubt it would have passed this council, unless the land was already zoned for apartments, in which case, blame councils from the 1980s and 1990s for zoning it that way.

Matt Scott has lots money to spend on his kids as not chairty to know one else. it is holidays Matt Scott why not give some of them souls back to the people. Some of the money you get from being lawyer for hurt folks can go to help people have good holiday. Can feed, clothes and give toys from dollar store where you met your ham. Why not city do something for them folks that need it. City has time to bother everyone so whyy not do something good for once and help the people. Why not get donations and give it to people not just to people you like. I know it hard to think about others since father was company man and payed for you to go to harvard. And now you are big man its harder to understand the poor folks But you c an learn to like folks that not are just like you are. Can like people that are not Matt Scott or Glen Feris. Want to make name for self thjen go make name. Go around give all your harvard money away to people that need it. Maybe you earn forgivness for all them accident vitamins that you had sign your contracts and take all there money.

Matt Scott is on the Rockwall City Council. He is not on the Rockwall Independent School District Board of Directors, and has never been on the RISD board. He had nothing to do with the natatorium being on the RISD bond proposal--that was pushed by parents (maybe he was one of them, but he certainly did not vote to put it on a bond election). I saw in the papers he supported it, but so did many other people, which is obvious given that it was passed by the voting public! If you are going to critize someone's decisions, you ought to at least know what they were. And he did not single handedly cause the majority of Rockwall to come out and vote for the natatorium bond either. Get a grip.

Hey GTF! Who asked you to butt in? You sound just like someone on the council. They always defend their decisions and never admit fault. Your word is not the last word, just a word of someone who wants to throw his big fat weight round. Get a grip of yourself. You invented a new name. Big whoopy! Now go back to whatever you were doing and feel important to yourself. No one asked you and no one believes you. You doin't know the fact that all this occured during the last few years while some of the council was on board. Thankfully. we got rid of the others and will do so again.

Daily Horoscope for December 10

Cancer

Someone dear to your heart isn't exactly a barrel of laughs today, are they? Is it your imagination or are they taking a perverse delight in spreading doom and gloom in all directions? If they've got good reason to be miserable then they deserve your sympathy, but even so it may not last for long. Try to keep active and cheerful, otherwise you'll also develop a tendency to brood.
