Just as a reminder, there is a Thanksgiving Turkey Drive going on right now. Last year we had 80 families to feed but this year it has jumped up to over 125. This is the last week to nominate a family you know is in need, as well as donations of food and turkeys. (Turkeys are on sell at Kroger for 33 cents/lb.) Contact the police department (Julie) to nominate either yourself or a family you know would benefit from this. Food can be dropped off at city hall, American National Bank, Texas Leadership Bank and State Farm on Main st. We will then need to gear up for the annual Christmas Toy Drive. I am sure there will be more families in need this year as well. Toys for all ages are needed. Let's all get together and help out our community. During this season, let's show the true love and care we all know this city is full of. Thanking you in advance :o)

Something else to mention here is the need for folks to deliver meals at Thanksgiving.

I know with the hassle of living your own lives, it is easy to forget to volunteer until it is too late...I'm even speaking of myself here, so
RC Lover, would you please post information about how one could volunteer to deliver meals.

It is also done year around isn't it for the elderly shut-ins, if so please post about that.

In addition doesn't the Senior Center cook a meal and serve it there?

Perhaps the newer members of our community could use an update on the volunteer opportinities in our little town.

This time of year why not consider forgeting about the problems at city hall etc. and think of starting a tradition in your home with your children by serving others in need at least at the holidays.

We used to feed the homeless in Dallas from the back of our truck, they were so grateful, and it was a true blessing for us. Nothing fancy just a giant pot of good hot soup and some hot coffee and cookies.

You'd be surprised who was in that line that formed. We are all just a "bad month" away from their position.

Great Idea! We do need those with trucks and/or trailers to help deliver. While we go to local neighborhoods, it saddened me further to go places most of us probably dont even know exist here in our little town. Areas where only a truck can get to, and a couple of places where we got so far, then had to carry everything the rest of the way because of drive conditions.
Please contact the Police Department to volunteer to help deliver.
You are correct in saying to forget about the problems with the city. When you volunteer, help others, see the smiles and hear the Thank Yous from little kids, your heart melts, changes and you begin to see more of the beauty of this wonderful little town we live in. I'm not sure about the Senior Citizens, I think they do serve them a Thanksgiving Meal as they do daily for lunch. The local churches have food pantrys and help throughout the year. We could also use volunteers to help with the toy drive. All the toys will be at Careers in Dental Assisting across from City Hall. We need help sorting items in groups from infants to teens, then bagging items together for individual families. We have a list for each family with number of children, ages and sex so we know what to put in each bag. We could use daytime or evening time help with that. Please contact me at careersindental@sbcglobal.net or call me at nine seven two nine nine eight six nine four two.(wont let me use actual numbers on here). Thank you all for your help, it's more of a blessing to give than receive

Dr. Paul, the local chiroprater, pays for Thanksgiving dinner for the entire community of senior citizens every year. The meal is prepared by the staff at the senior center and served by volunteers. If you are 55 or over come and join them this Friday.

This all sounds like what I wish more people would write about on topics. The good stuff, the giving, the caring. RClover, is there a cut off date for giving or for volunteering a family I may know of who is in need? I would love to help deliver but this old man couldnt lift a loaf of bread. But my wife and i will be at walmart saturday. We can pick up some goodies and drop em off at one of those places you listed. Thanks for helping those familys needs
