I just read on Planet Rockwall that Royse City's fireworks show will be held at Bulldog Stadium. I thought that it was going to be out by the middle school. Can someone please tell me where they are going to be this year?
Also, I just read that Garland has cancelled the Star Spangled Fourth and that there will be no fireworks on Lake Ray Hubbard this year either.

Thank you. I thought it was over by the middle school. The bulldog stadium threw me. I thought that was the name of the new stadium. Suppose I was wrong.

Bulldog stadium is the old stadium. We had to name the new one Royse City Football Stadium in case we ever have two high schools with different mascots. Don't feel bad, I called the Chamber office myself to make sure where it was going to be.

Yes, actually Mr. Mayor, the new stadium is Royse City ISD Stadium, since it is the venue for football, soccer, track and field and some other school events. I know, I did the same and I called the school district to clarify. The old stadium retained it's distinguished 'Bulldog Stadium' name.
Shows we are all stepping up in this world when we have two very nice 'football'...er..."whatev er type stadiums" in our community. Three thousand years from now, when they unearth the ruins around here, they will say something brilliant, like..."we have discovered the cornerstone of the ancient game of football" and it will be right here in Royse City. lol

Whew I don't feel so bad now. ha ha
Thank you for the clarification.
With the local cities canceling their fireworks show their may be a bigger turn out than normal for RC's show.

I don't need to go here, because I know this is a mistake saying this. I love our Country, the good ol' U S of A and I will die for my country, no questions asked. I love the Fourth of July and all of the celebrations that mean so much to everyone and not just me.
However and this is the catch, may I ask this question. Obviously the economy is hitting everyone real hard. People are out of work and summertime is here with high electric bills and all of that stuff. I am assuming that Garland and Lake Ray Hubbard and a few others are not spending the tax money because of the depression. If we are in such a bad financial shape and especially in Royse City where they found such a huge shortfall just a few months back, then not how, but why are we spending supposedly $25,000 on firecrackers and a fireworks show? Sorry, but I had to ask the question. I will await some sort of an answer, if anyone cares to address this sensitive issue.

I don't have a problem with spending some money on some things, but maybe it would be best put to use by maybe helping 100 needy families with a $250 certificate that could be used on bills or necessary everyday expenses. I for one would not care if that was done. I know you have to police that type of thing very carefully, or you will have Junior Samples buying 10 cases of beer with it.

from my understanding from those tht know, the firework event will cost 12k. the money came from hotel motel tax so im told and the law says that money has to be spent on tourism type expenses which firework shows fall in this category. some of the other money came from the edc which is also regulated different.

Lester Garland did cancel their activities due to the economy as well as the Lake Ray Hubbard fireworks. Rockwall will however still have their annual show at Harry Myers Park.
I for one am not going to touch you other inquiry.:-) But from Jason's explanation he seems to know what he's talking about.

Is there a difference in blowing the money verses blowing up the money?

I don't know that it would be feasible liability wise, but I would be interested if they opened up the stadium parking lot so that people who live in Royse City can go there and light off their own fireworks. I grew up in the country; Lighting fireworks was never an issue for me growing up. Right now, about the best option i have to light off fireworks is to go to Nathan Starr's place out side Forney.

Set it up with a fee to fire there, make it available only to RC citizens, and hire some local folks to handle the cleanup (use the fee money). Give some of the fee money to the VFD and the police to handle oversight. Seems a win for everyone.

This was my exact post. Why would you ask me a question like that in return if I just inquired about the spending of the tax money? It is the same if you blow money and blow up money and that is exactly why I asked the question. Why are you blowing up our money? Is this a normal reply? Then why are you blowing our money?
I do understand the hotel tax explanation, even though I don't agree. I guess several of the people on here find those kind of answers amusing.

I,m sorry you didn't find it amusing, I was just trying a little humor to lighten things up. You must have written a 20 page letter to President Obama after his stimulis plan money went kaboom. Jason explained where the money came from and the fact that it was already designated for just this type thing. Hope you enjoy your long weekend and come out with the rest of the town and and celebrate out independence.

Remember Hurricane Katrina? Gov. gave the people of New Orleans money and they ran out and bought televisions, expensive purses/luggage and still cried because they wanted more. How are you going to find 100 honest people who say that they are in need of $250.00. Heck, I need an extra
$250.00 but I'm not going to cheat the system to get it and that is exactly what would happen. I'm glad to see this money is used for everyone not just for 100 greedy people. There does that answer your question!!

Absolutely does not answer my question at all. You have twisted this to make it sound like we would give it to the greediest, slimiest, worthless individuals we could find. Heck man, give $1000 to 25 deserving people. I have seen this be a blessing to some people. I am talking about an absolute blessing. Somebody that is on their very last leg to stand on. Hungry family members, with shoeless children sitting in a home that the temp at 100 or more. Believe me, there are deserving people out there.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with celebrating our Nation's Independence. As I said before, there are three things I would lay down my life for...My God, My Country and My Family. My only concern was that this is a different time, a different place in all of our lives. While we explode a thousand dollar rocket powered firecracker, a family is out there loading up their last possessions from their repo house.

Tourism is what this money is destined and earmarked for, right?
Why not spend two thousand dollars on a big highway sign that says, "Exit here! We are Royse City, Texas, USA! This year alone we helped 25 families back on their feet. Come, stop, shop, stay awhile and make yourself at home."

Can you think of a better way to spend that money? Remember we are all in this together and we need each other to see it through.
Remember, I do not want to rain on this parade, therefore I really do hope everyone has a great time at the fireworks show and we can all celebrate our nation's freedom together.
