Despite being seven weeks old, the oil spill disaster continues with little abatement. Locals complain daily about the lack of leadership and action while the slick continues toward the coasts of La, Miss, Ala, and Fl. Obama's attention to the matter have amounted to no more than photo ops. Yes, being 5000 ft below the surface makes the situation harder to deal with, but many wells have been drilled at over twice that depth with no problem. The real problem is that despite all the lip service, there is obviously no effective management of the problem. BP's efforts so far have amounted to a band-aid approach, so look for this disaster to reach unimaginable proportions unless somebody takes charge now.
The technology exists to clean up the spill now floating on the surface, so why isn't it being done? Is there a sinister political component to this that hasn't surfaced yet?
