We need to be very careful of who we elect for President. We need to Forget Color, Gender, or age. If We don't do something different, when we go to Wal-Mart to buy groceries they will not ask (Paper or Plastic_..The question will be Do you want to put them in your pocket or just carry them out in one hand.

being that a paper mill is here in our town, don't you think we should ask for paper. actually, we shouldn't be offered the plastic, they should only have paper.

I tried to use paper bags for years, but unfortunately they did not hold the groceries, the bottom always bursted. I tried to use paper bags at Wal mart-got a broken foot from a jar of food... I am not going to try it again, costs too much money. I support this mill, but not the company that converts the paper to the end product, which is a paper bag.

B-Foot, you obviously have the right to use whatever bag you prefer,

You say you do not support the company that converts the paper made at the mill but you DO SUPPORT the mill.

How?? Do you purchase rolls or kraft paper by the ton from our local mill?

Or do you support the mill, merely by saying I support the mill?

I pray for the employees and people in charge everyday of my life. The best support is prayer suppport. I have sponsored programs in the past that helped employees of the mill and used to help with Christmas in the Park. Is that sufficient?

No broken foot, that is not enough support. If you had someone in your family that worked in the paper mill here, you would understand. Yes, I have had bags bust as well, but is it the bags fault or the checkers who packs it too full? Hmm...think about that. To support this mill, you should always ask for paper. My husband has been a paper mill worker for 20+ years, and his family has always worked there, and my family has as well; in all the different departments in the mill. To support this mill, actions speak louder than words. By not requesting paper, you are NOT supporting the main industry in our town, and the lifeline for so many people and families.

My family has worked there as well so I do know what you are referring to. As far as prayer support, I disagree with you. It can change things. But, we are in America and we do have the right to make choices that we feel are best for us. I will continue to pray for the mill, management and employees and continue to support the mill in the best way I can.

Does the Hodge Mill ship their product directly to the converting facility that manufactures all the bags utilized in Jonesboro? Check into that and let me know. Based on the quality or the lack thereof, I doublt Hodge is making that paper. The Hodge Mill has a wonderful reputation for Quality and the bags that are used here in Jonesboro do not meet the Hodge Standard. Check it out.

Prayer is without a doubt the best support. I agree 100% with you on that. Helping out at Jonesboro's Christmas in the Park has no impact or support for the mill.
Sponsoring a program that helps employees doesn't support the mill.

I am not saying you are not doing lots of good for the area, with the things you are involved in.

And there are things here that need support other than the mill, so keep up your civic involvement, and please keep praying.

I helped out with the Christmas on Mill Street, I mistakenly said Christmas in the Park. I have sponsored programs that directly influence the Mill employees. I have had direct involvement. I guess because I was not in the Mill 24/7, it just wasn't considered "enough" support. Oh well, I will just keep praying.

What seems stupid to me is that when walmart runs out of paper and "some" people will get fighting mad with the cashier. Next time you are at a Walmart outside of JP ask for paper and see what they say.. Then pitch that same fit as you do in Jonesboro walmart and see if it dont get you escorted out. I work at the papermill and I get paper and plastic... Im not going to get paper on a rainy day when stuff goes in the back of my pickup. Less than a quarter of the paper made at the mill is even bag paper. So why not ask for a cardboard box since that is the majority of what the mill makes paper for.

i have asked for paper outside of jpwalmart and they were very snotty because it would mess up those pretty nails she had. but when she said she was out of them i politely asked for a card board box. and she was still snotty and i politely waited untill someone delivered a box to my register. i am a mill worker and i will support my job and the jobs of my coworkers because our families depent on it.

NOW THAT'S JUST AN EXCUSE. IF YOU OR ANYONE IN YOUR FAMILY WORKED AT STONE, YOU WOULD USE PAPER REGARDLESS. I HAVE USED THEM FOR 20 YEARS, AND THERE IS A PRODUCT AT WALMART YOU CAN BUY CALLED BENGAL ROACH SPRAY IF YOU THINK YOU GET BUGS FROM YOUR BAGS. I'VE NEVER HAD A PROBLEM WITH BUGS, AND AS I SAID...20 YEARS OF USE.

IF THIS PAPER MILL SHUTS DOWN, THIS PARISH WILL SUFFER TREMENDOUSLY. YOU CAN NOT DENY THAT FACT, SMURFIT STONE CONTAINER IS VITAL TO OUR IMPORTANCE IN THIS PARISH.

RESPONSE TO REALLY:
if you have bugs in a house the paper bags did not cause them a nasty house did! they may give them a place to live after they are in the house, but they did not cause the bugs!!
remember: plastic forever in a land fill, but paper is biodegradeable.
GO EARTH!!

I do care about the people and jobs at the mill, BUT my husband works for the railroad and has been for 33 years, then the mill boss decided they didn't need that railroad, they would send more by trucks. That's ok too. But they run all the railroad guys that had 30 or more years out to have to work in other cities. Some in Shreveport, some in Monroe, some in Mississippi.

I agree with you in regard to the importance of the Mill in Hodge, however, I do not agree with using the bads at Wal Mart. Those bags from Wal Mart in Jonesboro are not manufactured from paper produced at Hodge. Using a paper bag at Wal Mart as oppposed to using a plastic bag will not keep the Mill open nor will it cause the Mill to close.
