I'm see/hear more about the gay club and harassment in the bathrooms than about gang activity.

Did you notice that Valley View parents did not get on this thread and bash the Jonesboro school? I think it's time to call a truce and no school district bash another.

That's because there is nothing to bash, now VV, different story.

JHS parent and alumni. My 16 year old daughter has been talking about it. She says they have been using hand signals to identify themselves behind teachers backs or in the crowds in the hall where they think they won't get caught. It scares her. She says she doesn't know the difference in the hand signals and which indicates which gang. She says she will speak to the wrong person at some time and get attributed to a gang by mistake. She likes to say hello and good morning. I was wondering if any other parent has heard their teen say something about it?
Oh, that gang! It's called the Dog Pound and that hand signal is called the shocker! lol Or if it's just one finger...well, I would hope you know what that is. Apparently your daughter is a little naive if she doesn't know what is going on. Move her to a different school if she is uncomfortable, worked for us. If JPS says anything, just respond that you will call The Sun or KAIT and make a story out of it.

JHS is great school! Teach your children to respect their peers no matter what their race, teach them how to ignore bullies and report problems to administration by phone or email. Parents, use common sense. Our kids are in AP classes and get great education. Gangs members come from all districts, don't single out 1 school district; and drug dealers and abusers are in EVERY district in town (read newspaper and follow KAIT).

I agree, I attended both Jonesboro and VV schools. I assure the drug and alchohol issue is way more accepted at VV with the "in" kids than it is at JHS. And this isn't hearsay or just some uninformed observer.

I went to JHS and knew many kids that came in from lunch break high as a kite. Drinking was a very real problem with the "in" kids going to parties on the weekends and getting sloshing drunk! VV is not worse than JHS. This is not hearsay either or some uninformed observer,

Names and proof, or it's all just speculation.

I submit to your argument. I see kids today doing things in a much more mundane manner. It's not as taboo as it was back in the 70's, 80's,and 90's. What I mean by that is that it seems to be more accepted. I'm sure this has nothing to do with TV, Internet, etc:)

I'm sure it has a lot to do with it. On these shows depicting high school kids, where are the parents?
Sex and alcohol are depicted as harmless normal activities. Just watch Vampire Diaries.

I'm not naming names. I never put people's names on Topix. Neither should anyone else.
