You are failing to grasp one reality that most people don't want to hear. If you use a gun for self defense or in attempting to stop a crime, you can end up in very real trouble. There is always a real possibility of a gun user being charged with a crime or sued in a civil action. I'm not saying that people shouldn't try to help in a situation like this, but merely pointing out that being heroic often has unintended consequences. I personally know of situation where a man and his hired hand were being fired at by an older man with a 22 rifle. The old man had done this before and was firing without the intention of hitting. The hired man thought the were in a life & death situation and got a rifle out of the truck and shot the old man. While he was never formally charged, his employer spent over $75K in legal fees to keep his employee from being charged with a criminal act. As crazy as things like this sounds, it is a reality that gun owners need to be aware of. Using a gun or other deadly weapon in self defense isn't always as clear cut as you would think. You also have to quickly assess whether the use of a firearm for self-defense will be considered justified and whether it may actually increase the risk to you or the person your trying to help. Right, wrong or indifferent these are all things you need to consider in carrying a gun for self defense.

Your very right. I think that if others had just made their presence known, that would have stopped the beating of this young man.

How do you find this map people are talking about? I cannot find one on the Internet.

Better to be tried by 12 than carried by 6. Most on a jury would not even think of guilty verdict on a self defense issue.

As a fraternity alumn I can say, without a doubt, that your claim is BS. No real Greek refers to a fraternity as a frat, nor a fraternity man as a frat boy. As a previous poster pointed out, it's Sigma Chi, not sig ma ki. Further more, both of those fraternities are respected on campus. So I highly doubt they would want a person of your caliber around, and have better things to do than get tied up in high school affairs. Chances are you're some 16 year old kid who's trying to sound cool, and you have failed miserably. You sir, are a complete and total douche.

I'm not saying stand idly by. I'm just saying be aware that the legal system isn't as cut and dry as TV would make it appear and there is a very real possibility you might need to hire a lawyer to represent you before you made any statement in a situation such as this. I had a situation once where traffic was stopped on the TN-AR Bridge while a man was beating up a woman on the side. Myself and two other men and a woman got out of our cars and started yelling at the guy and getting closer to him. He quit and we backed off and let him walk away. I had a hammerless 38 snubnose in my pocket which I handed to my wife in the car when he walked away. The police report ended up taking over an hour and we were all asked repeatedly if we had guns or weapons. Just for getting out and yelling at the guy in a group. Just want people to be aware that even producing a gun in a defense situation can subject you to a lot of questioning and you should know your rights and not hesitate to get an attorney if you sense your story is being skeptically viewed. I would get an attorney period before I said a word.
