check the expiration dates on the merchandise.

I went there today, it does look cleaner. I hope they can keep it that way. But I agree, you have to check the dates on everything. There are canned biscuits that are outdated. They just don't watch their stock. Also when the freezors have gone out and the frozen vegetables or whatever thaw, they refreeze that stuff. We have ended up throwing out frozen vegetables. We don't buy anything from the freezor sections.

They did have some better prices on canned goods. But other things that I normally buy there were priced the same, not any cheaper.

But I will go back, maybe it will be a good store now if people will come they will keep the stock rotated and fresh.

Take your calculator with you. They add 10% to the price posted on the shelf when you get to the check out. So when comparing prices to other stores, be sure to add 10% to the price marked on the self.

I found some items that were more than the manufacturers suggested retail when the 10% was added.

2% Milk was 2 cents higher than in another store I had visited the same day.

So just know what prices are else where before you brag about the "bargains" at the rebranded Country Mart.

Looks to me like the same management, same merchandise, so probably the same of business practices, just under a new name.

Yours is a much more helpful post than the original post which was obviously made by someone connected with the store.

Why would anyone waste their time with a place that sells expired foods and falsely labels the shelf prices, which is exactly what they're doing if they add a surcharge at the register? Better the devil(s) I know than a devil I don't want to waste my time or money on.

Yes, 10% is added at checkout. But that's because everything on the shelves is priced at cost value which is what the store pays for it. Other stores have prices listed 20-30% higher than cost value but you just don't physically see that on your receipt. And there are signs everywhere you look in the store that say 10% added at checkout so it's not like they're trying to hide that from you. You're actually getting a really good deal

The cost price is what they pay for it huh? I bet it is what they pay for it from their warehouse, who in turn actually buys if from the manufacturer and then upcharges it a little there. Or these manufacurers are giving ole Wally World a discount and charging these guys more. I went in today and was not impressed with the shelf prices. There were a few good deals but no better than the weekly deals offered at other stores in town. Also I saw several of the same people from the former Country Mart. Also the same equipment which often times failed and spoiled food. I have never bought so much spoiled food from one place as I did when it was Country Mart.

If you buy spoiled food, just take it back and exchange it or get a refund. It's an old store, so they're gonna have issues like that sometimes

I agree about the spoiled food. I am very careful and particular about what I buy there. Lesson learned. That store could be so good. They need to spend some money to make some money!

But there were not that many bargains, you need to know what things cost or you will not save anything. Beware and be smart.

I found some good prices, kraft BBQ sauce was 45 cents, plus 10%. Biscuits was 99 cents plus 10%, same ones at Hayes is $1.25. Package of bologna was 77 cents plus 10%. Some good prices, but some prices the same as other stores. I will shop there again.

They say everything is at cost, then add 10% at checkouts...then why is their milk, Pepsi, bananas, etc already at a higher price than wal mart, harps and hays...then add another 10% to that. I guess they should define cost. Should say make believe cost and hope to sucker some ignorant shoppers. Looks like its already worked for some on here.

Wow, are you really so dim witted that you don't know that each store doesn't pay the same prices for their merchandise? A huge chain like Walmart pays quite a bit less because they're buying so much more. Before you go and call people ignorant make sure you know what it is that you're spouting off about.

Like I said, ignorance. While this may hold true ( sort of)for wal mart. Cash saver buys their groceries from the same suppliers as bills, hays, and harps. They are all bound by the same costs. Now, vendor items such as coke, frito lay, turner milk, prairie farm milk which are purchased by all stores, also get the same costs, there are some contractual variances but most all the vendors are the same cost. Though your argument holds no water it is fun to enlighten someone that tries to act smarter than they obviously are. Please respond, I can do this all day long.

By the way, ignorance is not an insult. It just means "not knowing". So if you think about it...you're quite ignorant on this subject;)
