I heard city star baseball was off this year because the money went to ASU to pay for a football coach , I was told this by a higher up in jonesboro , if this is true it is heartbreaking that some kids won't get to play baseball

Youth baseball is alive and bigger than ever in Jonesboro. Check out Jonesboro Bseball Boosters. Youth baseball numbers are bigger than they have been in years. City stars baseball was a bad program with low numbers from its first years. I think city stars program has only been around for 2 or 3 years. City stars program had hard time getting parent to coach. I am not sure what the city did with the funds. I dought they help hire a coach for ASU football though!

City Stars lost a LOT of money on it last year, according to the folks at Earl Bell. It was a much better program before they took the City Stars grant money. Even though you had to pay to play, it was under much better management.

Well i guess you dumbass dont know what you are talking about. City stars programs is one of 3 programs left in the country that is free to play! We are very lucky that the city continues to support this program and doesnt charge all of us parents money. I have two kids that play in all the programs. The numbers have tripled in the last year in soccer and basketball doubled. I was upset about the baseball program to but once i went and talked to the city i understood it. There was only 150 kids playing in the program at northside. Which the program was runned by a idoit! The city reliazed it and decided to work a deal with JBB and scolarship all thos kids in to the rec league of the city at Joe mac which is a 100 times better than north side. The city felt there was no reason to have two baseball programs and have one especially at northside. So as you see the parks department is doing a great job and continues to grow. And for the coach hiring you should talk to john tyson from NW ARk. He is paying for the coach. Plus how could a free program pay for anything. People are so stupid on here!!

I agree. However, my child is on a traveling team. Want to know why? Because we couldn't take the politics anymore with JBB. You should see how teams are really divided in some age divisions. "Evaluations" are a joke.

I guess it depends on your situation. We ended up going back to JBB after one season of traveling. Our traveling team was falling apart due to parents trying to play politics. The politics didn't have anything to do with my son but the tension was there.
We went back to JBB and it put the spark back in the game for him. The kids should love to play ball. It's not about the parents. I let mine make his own choices when it comes to baseball.

The program at Northside wasn't always free. They didn't take on the City Stars grant until the summer of 2009. It was much more organized before that. And yes, it was run by an idiot when they took the City Stars grant. Call the activities director at Earl Bell. He'll give you the numbers. They lost several thousands of dollars on the baseball program last year. THAT'S why they chose not to do it again this year. Although it is true that it was hard to keep the teams full with 1) and idiot in charge and 2) JBB offering scholarships for those who couldn't afford to pay. It has nothing to do with the programs for the other sports. Do your research before you start spouting nonsense.
