as a teacher we are always on the job. we have to watch everything we do and say. we have to watch what we look like what pictures r taken of us every little thing is under a microscope its not fair sometimes because we deserve our personal space as well as a professional one but the rule of thumb is if you are not sure than dont do it or take the chance if she was drunk and being stupid than i could see her lossing her job but just because it was in the pic and she was on vacation no i think its stupid soon teachers wont be allowed to even have facebook without a violation to something

Yeah, right...you Baptists always say that you drink "on occasion", despite the fact that you and your Talibaptist friends probably have drinking problems. You also tend to modify "beer" with "cold", as if making the concept more palatable somehow mitigates your hypocrisy. You're the type who will vote for the politician who can put on the biggest "good Baptist" act, which in the end means you've fallen for a gimmick designed to keep the traditional power structure in its position of privilege. You probably even fall for the obligatory meetings between Billy Graham and our many presidents on the eve of embarking on a corporate war.

Now off with you--go enjoy another of your occasional beers.

This is precisely why we should not allow Southern Baptists and similar paleo-conservatives to be placed in positions of power. These angry primitives are christian versions of the Taliban, and we have to resist their every effort at gaining public power.
Oh, and I suppose we should put "enlightened" liberals like yourself in positions of power. I guess that's why the country is going down the tubes.

There is no way a teacher can be forced to resign or be fired over drinking in public. NOW, if he/she was drinking on school property...yes. If he/she was wearing school logo, he/she would definitely be repriminded. But not fired for drinking a couple of drinks. Come on. It takes A LOT to fire a teacher!!!

this young lady was forced to resign after she posted on facebook two pictures of herself enjoying what looked to be a beer and a glass of wine with dinner while she was on vacation. she was obviously not intoxicated and was by all means portraying herself as a responsible law abiding american adult. my opinion is its nonsense. what are your opinions?
Well itt all depends. First of all, is she cute? if so than I would probably let it slide. However, if she is not cute or fat of odd in anyway I would probly be inclined to send her on her way.

There's a pic on facebook right now of a local administrator in a picture with kids and alcohol. They were on a trip out of the country so I guess it's okay if it's legal there?? I was surprised!

I'm always amazed by people who not only dismiss something someone posts (which is a person's right) but also has to call the poster names.

It IS true. Here's just one of the many links:

dont forget, a teacher was almost fired in jonesboro a couple of years ago because of some pictures from a christmas party her class had. kait8 tried their best.
everyone needs to be careful what pictures they post online because it can affect future employment, it can affect current employment and just about every other aspect of your life.
The story about the teacher having a VERY inappropriate Christmas party in her classroom can't be compared to the story about a teacher posting a pic on facebook of her with a drink in hand. You're comparing apples & oranges.

you completely missed the point.

anyway, the pictures from the xmas party were found online and that is how kait8 became involved. as far as the xmas party itself, I saw nothing wrong with it except a few students got a little carried away with the gag gifts. But they were being normal kids.

Here's what's puzzling to me. Most kids don't live in a bubble. They are exposed to far greater crap at home. Between tv, dad & his beer & mom cussing in traffic...I don't see the problem here. If she's a good teacher & the kids are learning who gives a crap what she does on vacation. I don't understand people. We are human. Her pics weren't racy or in bad taste. Oh my! She's drinking a beer! I can't imagine what "our" teachers were doing back in the day, can you? Between technology & the media the world as my grandma put it "done gone crazy". She's a young twenty something teacher. Teaching is 6 or 7 hours a day? Parenting is 24/7... So should parents have to resign from being parents for what's on THEIR facebook? There would be alot of orphans all across the world.

Some parents are scared to death that their child will act like they did when they were teens. The problem is that instead of taking the lead in educating their children about drugs and drink they chose to be silent, thinking that if nothing is said nothing will happen. In the case being discussed it seems that someone is looking to blame the only person who does spend some time with their children. At some point , parents need to realize that teachers can only do so much for kids and the real responsibility is theirs. Trying to raise children in some kind of delusional utopian bubble and ignoring the real world is many times the problem. The teacher having a beer is not ever the problem.

Join the union so they can't fire you for chicken shit stuff. In Chicago, they could never fire a union teacher for stupid shit like that. Go union-Live Better.
