no matter what one thing is for sure this is gonna leave a mark on jonesboro and on the polic department. this is gonna take a while to blow over and will never be forgotten. the two officers involved weather guilty or not theyre lives are pretty much ruined, they cant go out in public in this town anymore without people looking at them funny and they will feel that. they probably wont be able to work as cops in this town anymore no matter what they missed that gun and looked what kinda heat it caused for joneboro and jpd they can kiss their jobs good bye as well as yates he's gone too, the mayor wont be voted back in offfice again and neithr will any of the judges. the guys running the system right now they had their fun but their luck has ran out, its time for a change around here its just sad it took murder or suicide to get people from outside to see it. but now they do. the cops i there smart are probably gonna chill out now with messing with people they know there being watched by the media and the feds. but it was ultimatly just bad karma on jpd and the system here for all the people who's lives they ruined karma came to return the favor thats just how the ball rolls and always will.

its kinda cool how it went down every chief in all the little surrounding towns oround jonesboro caught charges first. the joiner chief got caught abusing an alzheimers patient, the trumann chief was a pill addict caught stealing pills from evidence, the bono chief raped a man, and the bay chief beat his wife. then several months pass and this happens now yates is catching hell from all these organizations and he's being asked to step down wich is exactly what he needs to do either that or the mayor needs to fire him. he works for us the tax payers and he nor any cop of the jpd do me any good i feel my tax dollars are going to waste.

I am angered, overwhelmed, hurt and ashame. I am angered because law enforcement and the judicial system continues to find a way to seek, kill and destroy. Law enforcement continues to find ways to kill and abuse who they choose and there is nothing we can do but accept it. Again we are living in a subtle new form of Jim Crow. I am overwhelmed that the shackles still exist in Bastrop County. I am overwhelmed that such an educated society allows police brutality to exist. I am overwhelmed that the citizens quietly turn the the other cheeks knowing that the next person abused could be their loved one. I am hurt because I assumed that their was more love, more equality for humanity in my community. I am hurt for those that will suffer and myself who sufferes. I hurt for everyone who has lost a loved oneor suffered by police brutality and neglect., I feel the pain of everyone who has an article on this website. I am ashame that I live in a commuinity such as Bastrop County.. I am ashamed that I help place those in control in control. I am ashamed that I played marlbel with many who could change this problem. I am ashame that I live in a state that support police abuse. Oh but I am ashame of it all. It is sad that we as a human race stay the same. Our acts pass and feelings go from one generation to another. I hope I as an indiviual I do not allow this tragedy to make me like those who seek to destroy, kill and abuse others whose lives just happen to cross their paths. God blees Bastrop Texas. Touch the leader and followers. Guide me and fix me to be an instrument through my life to fix this problem. Take away all that is not love and give me strength. So it is written GOD know it will be.

Law enforcement have become a vigilante group who is chosing who can live and die. They have to much power without any oversight. They are playing judge and jury. All of those who are prejudice against the undesireables of law enforcment need to know they are not immune to abuse and death.

The words of the officer describing how an officer missed a gun on a search and that this prisoner was able to shoot himself in the right temple while handcuffed behind his back (and being left handed) are the most pathetic and disgusting lies I have ever heard. Do those cops really think that anyone is going to believe their asinine story. The Department of Justice needs to charge every officer on that scene with capitol murder and a hate crime. There needs to be people in the streets until the coward, murderous cops are brought to justice.
On January 19, 1965, my grandmother "committed suicide" with a .22 caliber pistol. It was a single shot to her right temple. We are a caucasian family, but that's not the point. We always believed that her life had been taken from her by her second husband. The coroner had removed her body, but hadn't even had the time to clean anything when someone used the key to the front door to gain entry and stole every piece of jewelry she owned. My grandmother was also left-handed. It didn't make any sense then and it doesn't now. All the JPD did was take him to the city limits and told him to beat it and never come back. I'm well convinced that there has always been corruption in the police department. What I just told all of you is the honest to God truth. If Chavis Carter was murdered, the officers at the scene that night should go to prison.

He was NOT murdered! How can you compare this to your tragic story? There are dishonest people in every aspect of life, no matter where you work. There are jerks and nice people, that's just life. I'm sure there are some dishonest, jerk police officers along with good, honest police officers serving our community. In this case, listen to the witness accounts. The ones who called the police when they thought something was suspicious. That man and woman watched from beginning to end. They did not see the police shoot Chavis Carter. The End.

I posted on the other thread what Chavis was initially on probation for, finding it in the DeSoto County newspaper archives. No insurance, paraphenalia, dui & reckless driving. Now that his mother has hired an attorney from the Johnny Cochran law firm...she will try to sue for negligent homicide..but, I ask... where does the responsibility of the probation officer come in? Why isn't any of his "record" being released of even discussed? And, I'm anxious to see where the gun came from. Though someone said an uncle in a news post...is he here in Jonesboro? That's conflicting if he resides elsewhere.
Why not go after the girlfriend. Wasn't she more negligent since she admits she knew he had the gun in the car but chose to not call 911. Instead, she jumped on the "he couldn't commit suicide" bandwagon.

None of those charges are felonys are they? Mom has the right to know the cause of death. Does the probation officer know. What was going on with that kid,I say kid because he is younger than mine.we all know he was a man. Probation officers get paid to know what's going on.as far as the girlfriend goes ....at that age you really never think that something that bad can happen

When people chose the criminal way of life, they greatly increase their odds of an premature, untimely death. He wasn't thinking about his mother's broken heart when he made his life changing decisions. He was thinking about MONEY, GETTING HIGH, and LOOKING GANGSTA!!!
