new kids right out of training/school?

11/hr - 15/hr... depends if you're looking in the clinic setting or hospital... You'll always make more working hospital shifts and of course nights and weekend pay is higher but... M-F no nights or weekends in a clinic setting is nice for those with families....

Don't do it!!! Nobody is ever happy to see a lab tech in their room. I can't imagine how tiring it must get to be called vampire over and over. Go to school a little longer and be a nurse. Talk about job security. If you get your RN, you can make a lot more than 11/hr

Jessie is speaking of a phlebotomist. I am a medical technologist (lab tech), which is a 4 year degree just like an RN, and started off at $17.00 an hour in a hospital. I am now a department supervisor and make $26.40 an hour. It is a very rewarding job and I couldn't be happier with my career choice.

I am already a RN with an associates degree but was always more interested in working in a lab instead but my family pushed for me to do the RN instead. That was about 10 yrs ago. Don't get me wrong, being a nurse is a great career choice but not the best fit for me.

Nobody is ever happy to see the nurse either. I know, I've been a nurse for 12 years. And I would trade jobs in a heartbeat.

Hi, I am a lab tech for a large mining company. It is easier to get into this field than you would think. I started off making 16 dollars an hour (shift work) and now (5 years later) I make 19.95 an hour. Straight days, no weekends. Not a bad field. Just know that more than hospitals need people to work in their labs.
All kinds of research facilities need lab techs.

I have an Associates Degree in Clinical Lab Science, an MLT certification from ASCP, and I've worked in the field since 1997. Base salary is $25.50 an hour and that doesn't include shift differential or weekend differential after which it's closer to $30 an hour.
Right out of school I was hired at a Medical Center Lab making $19.25 an hour. I was super pumped!

I live in Canada and am set on leaving to California to work as a lab technician, after I get my citizenship would I need to retake college to be eligible to work there? and how much an hour would you predict my pay would be, I need to figure out what I can afford living situation wise.

You can't make crap as a lab tech and with only an associate's degree you won't go anywhere.
