I enjoy church, but I have not been able to find an inexpensive church in town since I moved here three years ago. Churches here basically kick you out if you can't afford to give them 10% of your income every week. I would love to be able to pay tithes, but I can barely pay the bills I have! So if you guys know of a church that doesn't criticize you for being too poor, please let me know.

No real church charges an admission fee or any membership dues. Jesus Christ paid that for everyone on the cross. There are many fine churches in Jonesboro -- Methodist, Catholic, Missionary Baptist, others. Keep looking. Your church home is out there.

I know that these churches technically do not charge an admission/membership fee, but they know who doesn't pay their tithes and they treat you accordinally. Even once I get where I want to be financially, I don't know if I'd want to give 10% to any of these churches. I'll probably give 10% of my income to another trusted organization like the Red Cross where it would likely be better spent anyway.

How about we make a deal with you for 7%? Seriously, I don't know of a church that will run you off for not tithing, I've struggled at times and wasn't able to pay a penny, the Church exists to help people like you and me.

I only know of one church that even mentions if you don't keep tithes. Most of the church members have no idea who pays what.
If you join a church though, you should fully expect to pay your part. Churches have bills and staff that have to be paid. If you can't afford tithes then you should be using your talents to save the church money in other areas.

you need to read your bible...remember the widow and the mite...basically it says God don't want your money if you are giving because you have to and not because you want to.

Tithes should come first out of your income not last. How do expect to receive Gods blessings when you don't do what He says. You pay tithes first and foremost knowing that God will make a way for whatever else you need to get payed. He will provide.

If you regret giving 10% you will not be blessed so don't. Giving to the church pays The light bill and insurance and the staffs salaries. The bible teaches us to tithe but it should be done willingly out of love. How do you think churches are able to help people in need?

I do give my 10%. I give more when I can for outside projects and missions. The way I look at it is this, I pay my bills for my home every month so my family is comfortable. My church is my second home, the other members are my family of God. I do not resent taking care of either of my homes or families. If you find yourself grudgingly giving as little as possible, perhaps you should find a church that feels more like a true family.

That couldn't be further from the truth. I've grown up in the church and I am still technically a member of my home church back in Illinois, but it's been difficult finding a church here that I fit in at. I fit in at work and at school, but I can't find a local church that fits me and it's very discouraging. It doesn't help that I am not yet financially stable, so the churches that I've tried to make home treats me like an outcast because I don't tithe. And please don't give me that mess about giving a church 10% of my income before paying my bills. I would then either be homeless or living in an apartment with no water or electricity, and would probably have garnishments from my student loan lender(thanks MOHELA).

Yes, you pay your tithes first before any bills and TRUST HIM to provide the rest. Trust in The Lord with all your might and lean not on your own understanding! It doesn't make sence to us to pay tythes before bills, but that's what we gotta do. There is a way that seems right unto man. But leads to death and destruction. Start studing your bible and any other resources you can find and pray asking for wisdom and clarity from God on the matter.

or..you can be responsible and pay your bills first, put food in your childs mouth, put cloths on them, and then if there is money left over then a donation can be made..in other words where that its basically broken down: dont gamble..

Over in the old Testament some of the tithes were 23 percent. So ten percent is what we pay under the new covenant. Trust in the Lord an He will make the ninty percent go as far as the 100 percent. God knows our situation an how to meet our needs.

my Dad always told us that if the preacher had more than the church people, like a Cadillac versus PU trucks and junkers, something wasn't right or balanced. we usually moved to a different church if that happened. and some of these preachers fall for the stuff that tv preachers spout, prosperity and building bigger and better missions etc. look what happened to Jim Baker and Swaggert. after Obama gets done taking 55% income and gas and sales tax plus the 10% to church you will have maybe enough left to pay the electric bill? Faith is good but common sense is too. Hope they got good food in the food bank, you might have to use it? and if "church people" judge and look down on you for being poor, they ain't got no church religion!
