He saw my friend's dad in the rehab hospital and did not go the "extra mile". Her dad had severe pain and he prescribed Tylenol. When he was thinking the family was going to have a talk with him about it, he practically ran from the hospital. I hope he never has this happen to him or his family. He may be wishing he believed in God!!! I would never let him touch my family. And I don't recommend going to Healthsouth. They only help you if you are an easy case. Go to the rehab in Paragould hospital. For someone that Healthsouth said would always be in a nursing home, he is now at home with his family.
I have worked at HealthSouth for a few years and have NEVER seen Dr Shown not take the time to talk to ANY family members. Depending on the clinical situation, Tylenol may be in a patient's best interest. I think it is a testament what kind of doctor Dr Shown is by the number of employees that see him as their own personal physician. I can think of at least ten of the top of my head. Maybe you should have ak to talk to him...

What does a person's "Personal beliefs" about religion, politics, or anything else matter when it comes medical treatment? In any medical school (nurse/doctor) one is taught that there are many different religions/ethic backgrounds and you have to be sensitive to them all...

I've known Dr Shown for a long and worked with him as a nurse, never has he made his religious beliefs known to a patient or had his religious view point blur his judgement as a doctor. Because, not sure if you know this, but a doctor's religious beliefs doesn't make him/her a bad/good doctor.

Dr Shown is an incredible Doctor. He listens to his patients, how many do that anymore. He does what is best for the patient. A patient might want to try a medicine or a course of treatment, and if it possible for that patient to do/try what they wish, and Dr Shown believes that it is the appropriate course of treatment, he'll do it.

He sees patients all the time for nothing. What I mean by this is that if someone comes to him to be seen, and can't afford a course of treatment, he'll do whatever he can for that patient, BECAUSE THE GOAL HERE IS: to treat the patient, and to offer the best treatment possible. Dr Shown does that, not for his regular patients, friends, family, for EVERY PATIENT!!!!

So because he chooses to not believe in God, that doesn't make him wrong or right. It doesn't make him a BAD DOCTOR!!!! it makes him human and an AMERICAN.(Freedom of religion)....

I don't care one way or the other about his personal beliefs but I did have a bad experience with him. My husband went in to see him at urgent care because he was in major pain. The doctor ordered a "stat" CT because he believed it could be something serious. We were told he would call the next day as soon as he had the results - he told us that himself. So, here we go, off to the ER to be worked in for this oh-so-urgent test. The next afternoon, when it got to be nearly 5pm and we hadn't heard anything, we called his office. We were told he would call us back. No call. The next morning, we called again and were told he would call us back. No call. The next day, I went by there to get the results and he wasn't even in. I was told that he had received our messages and would call the next time he was in the office. We assumed at that point that it wasn't anything serious because surely he would have called like he said he would. In the meantime, we went to another doctor who diagnosed him with a simple test and treated him. Turns out, it wasn't that serious but that doesn't matter. What matters is that it COULD have been and Dr. Shown couldn't even take the time to let us know what was going on.

Oh, and finally, TWO WHOLE WEEKS after our initial visit, a nurse called to let me know the results of the CT were normal. I asked her why they couldn't have let us know anything sooner and she told me that she didn't know, she had just gotten the message.

I realize that everyone, even doctors, make mistakes, but if he has a hard time remembering to call patients back, maybe he could try writing himself a note to remind him of such things. My husband is stubborn about going to the doctor. He has to be in pretty bad shape before he will give in and go. Experiences like this don't make it any easier.

I just want to add that I don't think this necessarily makes him a jerk (as per the title of the thread) it just makes me uncomfortable going back to him. I have to say he was not a jerk to us in the clinic, it was just that we felt like we were getting the run around, like he didn't really care. That's the problem I have with him. Not his personality or religious beliefs.

Thanks.

First, I have to say I really miss Dr. Sanders McKee. He was very compassionate and never rushed an appointment. He explained things well.

Spencer Guinn-I couldn't tell if he was one someone said was bad or another Guinn. Dr. Guinn is great. He treats my daughter and a friend's daughter for injuries received from cheerleading. I do understand when he first returned from Iraq, his bedside manner was a little rough for a little while. I don't see how it wouldn't be with all he would have seen and fixed. He has stayed late knowing we were going in with an injury.

Dr. Weingold-Can't stand the man. He bragged about how mean he was to nurses and residents in front of me. He was arrogant. He wanted me to agree to a radical surgery without evem trying medicines first. I insisted. The drugs worked.

Dr. Beck isn't a jerk, but I would not take my dog to him either.

Dr. Marsha Taylor-Friend took daughter for jaw pain. Daughter had already had advil to try to stop it. She was still in tears. Dr. Taylor diagnosed that daughter talked to much which was causing the pain! Dentist later that day-abcessed tooth. Would have been nice if Dr. Taylor had looked in her mouth.

Dr. Dulacey-Can't stand him either. Rude to me after surgery. Rude to nurses. He was on call and decided that I did not need pain management except for naproxin after a major surgery. Thank goodness, Dr. Dunn was on call next and gave me something stronger. No, we didn't ask for a narcotic. We asked for something better than naproxin. I hope Dr. Dulacey gets a kidney stone and has naproxen only. He tried to change my surgeon's orders for work from 6 wks off to 1. Thank you Dr. Barker for being the best OB/GYN in town.

Dr. Johnson was really nice to me and I have no complaints with his skills during my minor surgery.

Well, I'm sort of new to this area but I've been to Dr. John Johnson and Dr. Taylor both recently and they seemed okay to me. I'm going back to Dr. Taylor tomorrow so I will let you guys know if she is NICE the second time around. Lol... Maybe she was the 1st time because I was a new patient.

Dr. Johnson did two surgeries on me this past Friday. I thought he did an excellent job. I have had no problems with it. His bedside manners were also excellent. The only thing I didn't like was waiting on my test results for days when he told me to call his office to get my results. When I did call to receive them the nurse wouldn't give them to me. I had to wait another day to get them. Luckily it wasn't cancer. I go back this Thurs. again hopefully my results will be the same this time.
