I'm wondering if any of you know anything about Jonesboro's noise ordinance, specifically barking dogs, or know where to find such things. I've look around online, but Jonesboro hasn't really uploaded a lot of city info. Thanks in advance for you time!

That only applies to big dogs that bark. Little yappy rat looking dogs are free to bark, growl and bite at anything. That goes for the leash law as well.

I have a new neighbor with a big dog that barks (deep loud bark) all hours of the day and night. I've been awakened several times in the early morning hours (2:00) because of the constant barking. Is there anything I can do about it and if so, what steps do I need to take? Thanks!

Have you thought about talking to your neighbor? Maybe they are so used to their dog that it doesn't wake them up anymore? I have asked the Animal control officer about it bc I have large dogs and they said they've never gotten any complaints. I was told if they did get a complaint they wouldn't be coming out at night bc they are off duty but they would come by during the day for several days to listen. If it was a constant bark then they would write a ticket but if not then there was nothing they could do about it bc dogs bark.

I don't see ANY that aren't breaking the laws and ordinances. Ask the authorities to actually enforce the laws they put into effect. When it starts costing the criminals $$ they will pay more attention.

We've got a neighbor with a herd of yippy dogs that bark incessantly. Have asked them several times to do something about it as well as animal control who did NOTHING. Next step is going to be a lawsuit or a box of .22 Short - haven't decided which yet.

JPD considers any and all calls about problems like this just a nuisance call that should be ignored by them. They are a sorry bunch that don't want to be involved in keeping the peace, only in things they think are worth their valuable (taxpayer financed) time and effort. They get wood over things like drugs, etc., that might get their names and photos in the paper in a positive way instead of all of the bad (earned) publicity they get about abusing their authority and doing a sorry job. Animal control, if you do call, will take so long to respond that in most cases whatever the problem is has resolved by the time they get there. They even ignore dog bite reports. Maybe not all, but 100% of those I have personal knowledge of, which is plenty in this sorry town. They make all these leash law/noise ordinances and then fail to enforce them. That being said, dog owners suck. They trespass their happy asses all over other people's property, leading their dogs onto others' lawns to leave their stinking, diseased waste, refuse to keep their dogs properly restrained, set their damned kids loose on the neighbors with the dogs for a double problem, and laugh their asses off at the laws and those paid to enforce them. I know of several cases where animal control responds and talks to people about their dogs running loose, sees to it that the perps put their dogs on a leash or inside a fenced area, only to have the perps watch him leave and then then turn the dogs loose again. Talking to the offenders is fine. Just don't be surprised when they get all pissy and act like you are the problem and not them and their dogs. It all boils down to people having enough morals and self respect and respect for others to do the right thing just because it's the right thing and they care enough to do the right thing instead of their being the self-centered egomaniacs that populate the planet at this time. People suck.

Actually you are wrong. I'm simply a Vietnam paraplegic who has found the JPD totally inept at protecting the citizens here. Perhaps totally uninterested in protecting the citizens and keeping the peace, as stated earlier, would be more correct. My family and I have all tried, to no avail, to elicit their assistance in protecting us from gross infractions of local, state, and federal laws that are being ignored by those around us, putting my family and me in jeopardy. My initials, by the way, are GWB. No, not George W. Bush, but thank you for your interest.

Just funny that you think you know so much about JPD and Animal Control.

If they are so inept at "...protecting us from gross infractions of local, state, and federal laws..." then I suggest you go somewhere else and get the "elicit" help from a different Police Department and Animal Control. My guess is they will be unable to please you as well.

Funnier still that you wonder how a law-abiding taxpayer who has tried to work within the system and who has been so failed by said system would not have learned how broken said system is. Odd that your solution would be for said law-abiding taxpayer to be forced to leave family and friends because of the failings of the local constabulary and the rest of the municipality instead of continuing to be a good citizen and working from within to make things better for everyone. Two of my children have become attorneys and plan to get involved on a state and federal level in the near future. My guess is that you are part of the broken system, JDP or other; that most certainly would explain your attitude and lack of insight. Again, sir, thank you for your interest and we wish you every success in your job and your life. Good night.

Jonesboro has more noise than just dogs, how about all the blacks playing all that stupid rap music. That is horrible music and they should have to keep it to theirselves. Not everyone wants to hear that sh*t, and to me that is disturbing the peace hear in Jonesboro

After speaking to the neighbor on multiple occasions this is how I solved the problem. I called the police, they did nothing so I decided to solve the issue myself. I have used pepper spray and a bb gun. The pepper spray works better if can get the dog close enough...

Somebody posted on here once that animal control should pick up the dogs and find responsible owners for them and the irresponsible owners should be put down like the sorry bastards they are. While I agree with that in theory, I've found that wasp spray in the face will back down the dogs they set loose on their neighbors and it's cheaper than the pepper spray I priced. The non-aggressive ones you spray with skunk scent so the owners get to deal with that. heh heh heh heh
