You might contact the Craighead County Historical Society. They have a sight so it couldn't hurt to send them an email.

Wow.... It's been along time since I thought of that place. I learned to roller skate there about 30yrs ago. It was pretty run down then but man we had a good time. The amusement park was already closed at that time. If I remember right they chased a small bear off one afternoon while we we're there.

You can go down Lincoln Drive, off of Craighead Forest Road, and still see traces of the old park through the trees and brush. Really creepy looking!

Everett Bolton built the original park in 1961. It had the train, tramps, and other rides. He sold it one or two years later to Berl Brooks, who was at that time Principal at West School. He built the small house that sets in the park and lived there until he built or remodeled the much larger dk. red brick home he had on Harrisburg road that had a pool and tennis courts just before you get to the road that led to the Craighill Golf Course. I believe Brooks built the Rollarink.

Oh yeah, we skated there YEARS ago in the 70's. The thing I remember the most was having to avoid the holes in the floor or you would wipe out big time.

I think one to the last guys to run the place was a guy named Harvey Williams.

Craighead Forest used to be the place to go to fish, swim, boat and go to the amusement park.
I sure miss those days.
We had so much fun roller skating.

For some reason I thought Junior Haggenmacher owned/ran the roller rink. Was there more than one in town back then? I remember the lion, too. Had a friend who lived about a mile away & you could hear it roar from their house!

I think Junior Haggenmacher owned a roller rink that was located in the curve out on East Nettleton. Somewhere close to where AL's Lock and Key is.

Haggenbacher did own it at one time. He must have bought it from Brooks.

The Chamber has more important things to do than track down pictures of redneck amusement parks for senior citizens who don't have anything to do all day. Try the library.
