My wife and I just got our updates from Kaiser telling us what our 2014 rates will be. Her monthly has been $168 this year, mine $150. We have a high deductible. We are generally healthy people who don't go to the doctor often. I barely ever go. The insurance is in case of a major catastrophe.

Well, now, because of Obamacare, my wife's rate is gong to $302 per month and mine is jumping to $284.

I am canceling insurance for us and I am not paying any fucking penalty. What the hell kind of reform is this?

Oh, ok, if we qualify, we can get some government assistance. Great. So now I have to jump through another hoop to just chisel some of this off. And we don't qualify, anyway, so what's the point?

I never felt too good about how this was passed and what it entailed, but I figured if it saved Americans money, I could go along with it.

I don't know what to think now. This appears, in my experience, to not be a reform for the people.

What am I missing?

I realize I will probably get screamed at for posting this, but I can't imagine I am the only Californian who just received a rate increase from Kaiser based on these new laws.

How does the ACA affect your insurance if you already had it?
Because my coverage didn't meet the "minimum coverage requirements" of the new law. Therefore I am screwed.

So many have had negative comments on the AHC law. It is not the intended outcome of Obama for the rates to rise, for any insurance plan. The teachers of Arkansas are having this problem because those in charge of the teachers health care premiums, and overall insurance, have put their head in the sand and ignored the long term effects of their " live today and no worries tomorrow" outlook. They have admitted it has been a problem swept under the rug for years now, so this is the result. It has nothing to do with Obamacare, as it has been called. Your insurance premiums are going up, not from the new law, but the insurance companies, doctors, and health care facilities have gotten greedy. They certainly dont want to cover a child over the age of eighteen on a parents plan. Pre existing illness is not what insurance companies like to hear they have to pay for. Lets say you have an motor vehicle accident, and go to E.R. with it being another drivers fault. Do you think YOUR insurance carrier will want to pay? The first thing that is coded on your file is MVA. Someone is getting to the bottom of that real quick. Why should you NOT be covered through your health care coverage if you have heart disease, and change jobs? Lets look at the charges from hospitals, shall we. A basic MRI, is usually $900, more or less, depending on whats scanned. If 100 people get that done in one month, that's $90,000. One year and it's over $1,000,000. How long will it take to pay for that machine? Why should an asprin, or tylenol cost $5 in the hospital? Get an itemized statement and you will flip. They are overcharging for services. They code it in the way the brings more money to the table. They are greedy, and that is the main cause for health care to be so out of control.

Yeah, tirge, that's like at Frito Lay, bigger deductibles, bigger copay, almost double premiums and everybody I know working at different places is getting the same screw job. You won't have any say about the penalties, though, because the IRS (Obama's gestapo) is going to catch and crucify everybody. No kids for me but the guys with them say it's worse for them. Sucks, and it's only going to get worse. Obama's "legacy" will still be killing Americans long after we're all gone.

Some people have had their deductibles increase 300%. They barely could pay, before. Now, the deductible alone, keeps most folks from filing anything, short of major surgery.

That's probably true. The easy the law is written all must cover maternity leave, birth control etc. These coverages weren't previously carried by men, but since they are now, and will never ever be used there may be some savings for women that carried those coverages. It's okay though because your insurance will increase by at least as much as your wife's decreases. That's how Amway works and that's how your insurance works now. You're welcome America!

My rates are going up about $17 per week, mainly attributed to the yearly increase. They even offered an ACA minimum plan that is about half of what I pay per week now. The key point here is find a job with good insurance.

Ronald Reagan called it, back in the 50s or 60s. He said this country, would fall into socialism, if the new healthcare plan was passed. But then, he was talking about Medicare. That plan is ok, but it too is abused, almost to the point of extinction, by folks who never paid a cent into it. So, what do you do? At my age, I'm too young to draw it and soon, thanks to o'ramma in the bamma, I wont be able to afford anything else. Millions out there, just like me.
