Ok can some please tell me there is a burn ban going on and why are the farmers still burning? Are they above the law? I hope someone fines the hell out of them. How stupid can you be to know its dry as hell out there, and farmers continue to burn, with no regard to which way the damn wind is blowing. This needs to be addressed by someone of authority, please. Jonesboro has been covered up in smoke the last two damn weekends and I am getting sick of it. Damn I understand now why there is so much damn bashing on the farmers lately. They have no respect for anything, and just do as they want. I guess burning the fields is keeping our food cheap also, Mr. Farmer? Well there is a BURN BAN in the county now! Know the LAW! Collect your government check and abide the law please.

Its does apply to them. A Burn Ban means there is a BURN BAN FOR EVERYONE! But your saying when a fire gets out of control then the burn ban applies to them? Funny. By that time its to late. Heck anytime you start a fire and it gets out of control, the person who started it is responsible. The News even reported this not a few days ago and stated everyone was under a burn ban. They should go out there and fine those burners.

I have a reason to whine, its a health issue. But I guess you don't care about the ozone layer now do you? All you care about is getting that government check, so you can make that lake house and helicopter payment. You see when I bitch as a tax paying citizen, I am called a whiner by you, but when you bitch its for the good of man kind, and just. Well sorry, but your damn smoke is f***ing my nose up. Collect your welfare check and burn when the weather gets better. I know your worried about making that big house payment, but the burning can wait till there is NO BURN BAN!

When was the last time you seen a starving person in jonesboro? The starving babies in New Guinia have food now. That excuse it getting really old! Its time the citizen of this nation, realize if we ever want to be the nation we once were, we got to wean ourselves of the government tits. Farmers are first in line, then the ghetto brothers in Memphis. I mean get real. Is a farmer taking $100,000 check per year for not farming, any worse than a black female with 5 kids no dads, and collecting $1,000 a month? Your nine times worse. But you damn sure bitch about welfare people now don't ya?

There is only a burn ban in city limits.

Burnban=election coming up. There is no statute that says you can't burn, it's all politics. A burnban by the county judge doesn't really hold water, Atleast this is how it was explained to us in our meeting last week. Calling the police won't help, because they can't ticket you. The only ticket you could get would be from the forestry commission in the case that your fire crossed property lines.

I have seen burning going on everywhere! Unless you have a firetruck waiting in the driveway, how can you be SURE that a fire is under control. Even then, there are so many variables that can play into the situation. It only takes a split second to go from bad to worse. Was it not a farmer burning trash that caused the pile-up a few days ago in MO?

That's all great news...you should thank your local farmer.

And, if you think you could survive on the food you grow in your little garden in the back yard, keep complaining and try it out.

I would think that after the rain we are getting this week that the burn ban would be lifted. And as far as who it applies too. If there is a Burn Ban, it is exactly that, a Burn Ban. NO BURNING OF ANY SORT!

The main reason for field burning is the charred remains of the field will add nitrogen-rich fertilizer to the soil. After the field has stopped burning, the farmer will re-plow the field incorporating this charred fertilizer into the field. This will help the field bounce back nutrient wise.
More times than not, the farmer will let the local authorities know in advance just in case there are any problems arise.
Burn bans do not apply because this is necessary for next year's crop! If you want to eat, quit complaining. This happens evey fall. It's a controlled burn, and it's a normal process of ridding the field of weeds and enriching the soil at the same time.
