his name was randy. he moved to the area in 76. when he showed up for basketball try outs coach dugan made a speech about if you are a senior and did not play last year forget it. so he moved to his mom's house in ok and led his team to a state champ and made all state his self. to bad coaches don't pick players all skills.

When a school has played basketball for 100 years, you need to decide the best by decades. For Jonesboro, the 30s - Willard Tilley, Everett Bolton, Hot Osment, and Henry Metzler. The 40s - Charles "Junk" Johnson, The 50s - Jimmy Doyle Hunt, Tommy Rankin, Larry Grisham, and Ralph Childs. The 60's - Joe Murphy, Barry Pruitt, Kenny Johnson, John Dickson, Mike Burk, Clovis Swinney, Mac McAlister, Fred Mooney, Phil Young, and Steve Hudson. The 70s - Scott Bull, Mark Million, Larry Joe Andrews, Billy Joe Clark, Craign Monroe, Jeff Bolding, Matt Garner, and Joe Lee. That is my picks for the pre -80s best. Milton Sullivan never played at JHS. He could have played his senior year at JHS, but he used some high school eligibility played for Washington High School when he was in the 8th grade. His senior year be played with an independent team of former college players.

Corey Ross or Ali Thompson best hands down.
Lorenzo Hampton? Please. He didn't hold a candle to the two mentioned above.
For the record for all of you, Jerry Rook played at Nettleton.

Fred Mooney was the best player at JHS...went on to play at the UA. Texas coach, thanks for including me in the 70's bunch...but your memory must have faded...I really don't belong. But we had fun-except for Coach Haney. That was a drag. Too bad they didn't appoint Mearl Henry coach. Coach Henry, RIP. Thanks.
