I know from people who worked at Jcpenney's at the time of wanda's murder. The guy that murdered her had got fired earlier that day and was angry. At closing time he asked to come back inside and get something that he had forgot. he then at gun point forced wanda and the store mananger at that time into the cash room, he fired at both of them killing wanda and injuring the store manager. til the time the Jcpenneys in Indian Mall closed strange events would occur, most people believed that it was the ghost of wanda

Well there are several stories of lots of little things that are really strange, but the best story that I have ever heard was that one night an over night maintnence man was in the store by himself and heard a gun shot, a scream, and some money falling to the floor. when somebody told him about the story of the murder he quit that day.

Does anyone from the Walnut Ridge area know about the killings involving Dr. William Hughes? I think it happened in the late 1920s or early 1930s. I have an 83 year old aunt that remembers about it as a child but can't get more details. Dr. Hughes was a respected doctor in the area and delivered most of the babies at that time. Apparently he got into a run-in with some family and there were several shootings. I understand that Dr. Hughes was never convicted of the killings since the grand jury thought they were justified. Can anyone give me any leads where I can get more info? Thanks

ok anyone remember the Brett Marsh murder? He lived in Melton addition and stabbed his Father to death on New Years Eve I believe '82 His mother got away. He was a Jr or Soph at JHS at the time. Had a problem with his medication and went crazy. He served time in a mental institution I believe and now lives back with him mom in Melton. He walks around the neighborhood all the time.
There was also another murder in 81-82 off of Wood Street. A man (simmons) or similiar , murdered his wife and then set himself on fire in a tire in the back yard. I had a friend who was a neighbor and we went and looked through the windows at the crime scene days after. It was spooky.
The man was Lowell Simpson, beat his wife Nell to death with a large wooden club then set himself on fire. It happened around 3:30 PM on a Saturday. Their house was on Twin Oaks, just W. of Wood St. He died from burns late that night in a Memphis hospital.

Boy, howdy, I do!My daughter, now in her late 20s, was just a baby.
Jack Hill was still at Ch. 8, so it the news dept. had some teeth then.
They busted in programming with breaking news and said that b/c everything was sketchy, they were advising folks to lock up and not answer door to anyone. Didn't realize when first reports came out that the sheriff AND Kahl were both dead.
I remember being scared out of my wits!

What happened to Jack Hill? The last time he was on the news wasn't he down at Judd Hill standing in the middle of the road watching some old house waiting a man to come out. I can't remember why he was doing that. Wasn't he fired after that?

Oh and btw i grew up at first assembly, parents married there, born and raised there. Brother carpenter baptised me and god is all up in that church! Its a wonderful church full of praise and worship and great morals. Brother carpenter would never have had someone arrested for asking about the scripture, its his duty and job to answer those types of questions and give guidence. That Crap about running god out of the church makes absolutely no sense...what is a church without god! True Christians aren't evil

My grandmother was murdered in JC Penney on Dec, 28 1979. Her name was Wanda Turnbow. David Lasley murdered her and was sentenced to life in prison.

I believe the person that did that murder was convicted, sentenced and did time. I used to work with a really nice guy--it was his mother who was murdered coming out of JC Penney; she worked there.

Is it true she was having problems with her husband and he hired David and some of his friends to do it with the promise that he would get money for his family and legal help? I heard some of the money was found at one of David's friends home who was beleived to be involved but was never convicted because he was a street informant to JPD.
