I am a member of the Arkansas Bar Association, and the officer does have to show you his radar, if you request. He even has to tell you the last time it was calibrated and what brand it is. If the calibration is past due then that can get your ticket dismissed. There are several ways to beat a ticket, like I said before just leave me your email and I will be more than happy to send you some materials you can read on how to fight one in court.
I am interested..... [email protected]

Forget beating a speeding ticket in Tyronza though! I got one, and WAS NOT speeding. There was actually no way I could, since I was boxed in by other cars. I went to court, where MANY Tyronza residents had their cases dismissed for child endangerment, and not having their kids in car seats or buckeled up. But being from out of town, hell no they wouldn't drop mine. The cop said different, and FALSE information. He said he pulled me over in a different location then what he actually did. Because of that, the judge said I was lying, and I had to pay mine

Mom here's the best thing you can do. Go to court and plead guilty to the ticket and ask to be put on probation. If you qualify for that they will usually suspend the fine for the ticket and court costs. A probation period may last up to six months. The rule is if you go the probation period without another moving violation they will dismiss the ticket and it will never go on your driving record or insurance. However if you do incur another ticket within that time period you will have to pay the new ticket AND the previous ticket along with the court costs incurred. That is what the judge did for me a long time ago when I got a speeding ticket. I am sure there is someone else here that can verify that the traffic courts do this.
This is true..I have seen this done. I THINK that sometimes he makes you pay the fine and then in six months if your clear of any other traffic tickets they refund your money.

They don't refund your money.....it stays in a court account until your 6 month probation is up. If you do a defensive driving class & have no tickets during that period, the ticket stays off of your record. If you get another ticket with in that time period, they both go on your record and the deal is off.

So basically it's the court system playing the lottery with your money? That's JACKED UP!

I was in traffic, speed limit was 50 mph. he said I was going 65 mph. I was not even really passing other cars. I don't really know how fast I was going but not over 60. Not near as fast as the bypass which is 65. We were even coming up on a wreck and I didn't have to slow down to much

The judge will be Keith Blackman
and he would find god guilty of
something. He is the most unfair
and one sided judge I have ever
seen. He is nothing but a tyrant.
He will find you guilty but you
can request an appeal bond and
it goes to the next higher court
where you have a better chance of
the judge actually hearing what
you are saying. Blackman doesn't
listen to one word the person says
he just sits there and when it is
time he just says guilty. Whatever
you do; don't plead not guilty
just to buy a little time and then
change your mind and plead guilty
because it will cost you more
money. Judge Blackmon has been sued
for that. I wish someone with an
open mind would run againist him.
Judge Blackmon said the following
one day in open court. He said,"
you must be guilty or the cop would
not have arrested you." The lady
prosecutor jumped up and requested
a break she knew a statement like
that had no place in open court.
Before anyone says anything I do
not have a record. I do however,
have a four year degree in Criminology
and two year degree in Law Enforcement.
I have watched a lot of trials in my
field and I know most of the judgess
and Keith Blackmon is the most unfair
and ruthles judge on the bench.
Good Luck but I would bet I know
what the outcome will be.

If you admit to exceeding the speed limit, even by 1 mph, you are admitting your guilt. If you do challenge it in court, you might want to keep that in mind.

Beating a speeding ticket in District court is very rare. However, as one of the previous posters mentioned, you can appeal your case to Circuit court where the court rules are more strictly followed. The problem with that is it usually costs as much or more than the District court fine just for filing costs.

In the past I appealed a traffic offense conviction to Circuit court and requested a jury trial. You will be granted one as a matter of right because technically the charges are criminal. Most prosecutors have better things to spend their time on than a jury trial for such a minor offense. In my case, they dropped the case. But, I was still out my filing fees which were over $100.

Our Judge is strict granted but heck if all you did all day was listen to cases on scumbags who screw up all the time you would become hardened to.....stop breakin the law and you won't be in front of the judge! then u have nothing to worry about..don't hate on the man for enforcing the law...he could make the punishments A LOT stiffer but doesn't...i know him plenty of times to go easy on people and even on a traffic ticket give them the 6 month probation period so don't go in there cocky and u'll be fine..out a little money but not as back as if you go in there like a jerk

You must not have read what I said. So,
I will say it again I do not have a
criminal record. I was not the one in
front of Judge Blackmon. I am in the
Law Enforcement and Criminology field
I have watched a lot judges in my
lifetime and Judge Blackmon is the most
unreaonable, unfair judge in the
second judicial district. He is a tyrant.
I might become hardened but never to the
point that I would think God would be
guilty if he was standing in front of
me.

Hey. They don't have to show it to you. They don't have to show anything to you. You can go to court. When you do they will show the radar was certified, the officer was certified and you are screwed.

Go to court and plead guilty to the ticket. Ask the judge to put you on probation. If you qualify for probation they will suspend the ticket and the fine for it. To qualify you must have a clean driving record. If you complete the probation period <usually 6 months> without another moving violation they will dismiss the ticket and fine, thus it will not go on your driver record or insurance. However, if you do incur another ticket you will get stuck paying for the new one AND the old one. I had a speeding ticket once and the judge did that for me. I am sure there are others on here that can verify that traffic courts do this for drivers with clean records.
Went to traffic court several times recently as a bi-standard and the judge did not give anyone a break. Many had to do community service along with paying the fine and no, they did not get the ticket off their record. My advice is to pay the ticket and avoid going to court, otherwise you will HAVE to do community service. Actually he gave some the option to do community service or serve jail time. All were in favor of community service. I have never seen anything like it before in my life. There was a forum regarding this particular judge not long ago. Search it and read others experience. This judge does not like you to challenge the court or the officers.

This judge does not acknowledge the fact that the officers can make mistakes. If you happen to have a few hours off during the day, go by the court room and observe what happens on the traffic cases. No attorney in this whole area likes to go before him because they can't win a case for you. I talked to 3 and they all said the same. I saw several attorneys in there and all lost their cases. I am just trying to save you some community service time that could possibly be given to you should you challenge the court, especially if you have children to take care of.

So what is he going to do bring the radar into court as evidence instead of showing it to the person on the side of the road?
