What changes do Republicans need to make within their own party if they expect to win a future Presidential election?

Since I've been giving warnings about how the Republican party leadership across the nation (both at the State and Federal level) are living in the far past where it concerns women and women's issues I will bring that up. After all, they messed up so badly on us we became a massive voting force that kept the Republicans out of the Presidency in two elections in a row. They particularly drew our, women's, vengence in this election.

What changes they must make concerning women if they don't wish a repeat (loss due to losing our vote) in 2016 .....

First, I have no idea where the Republican party get the issues that they think or claim are important to us. Because they are wrong. I think maybe they do phone polling and only ask women that are home at 1 PM. Women that only leave the house to go grocery shopping. Or from their wives that grew up rich and protected from the outside world.

Here are the changes that need to be made pertaining to women if they ever wish to have a chance at our support and therefore a shot at the Presidency. Ignoring these issues is what caused them to lose the last two elections. Particularly this election.

And the Party cannot do only small token efforts or just talk about helping, we learned in the past to watch out for that. We're not stupid.

They need to do this .....

Leave Planned Parenthood, abortion, and the pill alone at both the State and Federal level. By leave abortion alone I mean also stop attempting to find ways to block or reduce access in each state.

And stop blocking fair pay laws and begin supporting them (passing them). Also stop attempting to abolish fair pay laws in States were they already exist.

Also stop blocking things at the state level such as laws banning insurance companies from charging women more than they charge men. We also like the idea of us having good heath care.

Another issue is to support full sex-education, and stop this wanting only to teach abstinence-only sex-ed with a ban on mentioning birth control. Yes, there were a bunch of Republican bills around the nation seeking this.

Something very important ..... the Republican party badly need to force out the extremist-religious movement that's become rooted into the party. Religious extremists are a threat to our rights. That's where a lot of the attacks from the Republican party is coming from.

Another is stop attempting to pass important things down to the state level. This is American, one nation, we're one people. Not 50 separate little nations each with their own laws. We like the security that comes with a good federal government.

If they don't ..... the republican party can also kiss the next Presidential election goodbye.

As a woman, I agree with a few points the previous poster made, but not all of them. There are some things that should be left up to the states. The federal government cannot and should not be involved with every aspect of our lives. The states do have some rights to govern themselves.
But I voted republican this year for the most part. I voted for a couple of dems, but that's all. I have the ability to see that there is far more at stake that is more important than social issues. And giving more people welfare that the government can't afford to give them is one of them. People are very misinformed if they think we can continue on pur current course.
Incidentally, since Obama is a lame duck president now, I anticipate you will see the media begin to not be as kind to him as they have been the past 4 years. It's about time, too.

They wont win again without more of the latino vote. It was the difference in this election and is the fastest growing demographic. If they keep calling them criminals, saying "build a fence", & "send them back" then this will happen again in 2016.

The two deciding factors in this election was women and latinos. The Republicans ignored the power of both groups and it lost them the election. But a great thing happened because of it. Both of us (women and latinos) now realize the power we now have as a voting force. We can make a true difference in American politics.

But we need to watch out. My guess is, to keep it from happening again and to knock us back down, the Republican party will attempt to play everyone against each other and break up that power. So be careful.

Jenny,

Republicans don’t oppose most of the issues you posted. What they do oppose is using public money to fund them.

There’s nothing the GOP can do to stop abortion. That would take the Supreme Court reversing itself. So the issue isn’t a woman’s “right” to have an abortion. The issue is who should pay for it. Conservatives believe it’s wrong to force some people to pay for other people’s abortions.

The same idea holds true for Planned Parenthood and accessibility of women’s health care. Republicans merely oppose who pays for it. If you need a pap smear or birth control pills, you should pay for them yourself. Others shouldn’t be forced to pay for your wants and needs.

It really is that simple. Unfortunately many women are like you, mindlessly swallowing the distortions of the left without ever seriously thinking through the issues. You believe the lie that Republicans want to take away your birth control pills or prevent you from having an annual checkup with your OB/GYN, even though that’s not the issue at all.

Some people (men and women) do believe others should pick up the tab for their needs and like being a leech on society. Perhaps you’re among them. Those people will never be convinced to vote for conservatives anyway, and it would be a waste of time and resources for the GOP to try to get their vote.

As they say, you just can’t fix stupid.

Freedom of choice is about each women being able to decide for herself whether to have children or not. And not having the Government decide. No Government should that kind of power and authority over it's citizens.

Only 3 percent of what Planned Parenthood does is abortion related.

I haven't thought through the issues? I 'have' on everything from the recession, economics, and all the way to rights.

As for the issue of women's rights. Have you followed all the things the republicans have done or attempted to do over the last two years? A lot of us have. Enough of us that we voted against the Republicans because of it.

A friend and I did a thread about it on several different forums before the election listing a number of the attacks (only some were related to abortion). As for the pill did you know there is a number of Republican leaders which want to give states the authority to ban the pill ..... not abortion or the morning-after pill, but ban the birth control pill. Rick Santorum is one. He is big enough in the party he was one of the major Republican Presidential candidates (before Romney was finally chosen by the party.

Here is one of the threads I mentioned on the attacks on women by the Republicans across the nation in just two years. As the posts on it progress it gets into listed various anti-women bills and statements. So read it all.

Btw, over the last two years there were approximately 1000 Republican bills across the nation to either ban abortion or designed at doing away with women's access to it.

There were around 1100 Republican anti-women bills targeting women one one way or another (a question, why are Republicans so against laws saying men, women, and minorities should be paid equally when doing the same job?).

Were there 1100 Republican job bills? If they had put half as much energy in fighting the recession as they did attacking women there would not be a recession.

Why did the Republicans in Washington last June block a Federal fair pay bill (law)? It was the second time since 2010 they blocked it. Why did a Republican governor repeal (abolish) a state fair pay law? Why were the Republicans in numerous states trying to abolish their state's fair pay laws? Why did Bush twice block a fair pay bill that was later the very first bill President Obama signed into law on his third day in office (The Fair Pay Act of 2009)?

One possible reason ..... maybe too many and too large of campaign contributions from companies which do pay discrimination. But the Republican party 'have' definitely revealed one important thing ..... they wish to set us, women, back in time.
