Cost of food especially catfish probably chef factor in closing. Only chain restaurants will be left in near future.

There's another thread on here from a few days ago. It says they closed Wednesday night and didn't give the employees any notice.

When Ed's was out on Hwy 1 South they done a booming business. Of course economy was much different then. I think the beginning of the end started after moving to Southwest Drive. It wasn't visible enough, truckers and other large vehicles could not park.
Substantial increase in the price of catfish was the last blow. Little Rock news reported one well known restaurant there increased catfish plate by $3.00 each.

Did Ed lose a big part of his business on Hwy 1 to a casino in Tunica? Like he lost it and just ran it for them? That was the word back in the day.

I can honestly say, I'm not surprised. I really thought it would have happened sooner, since Ed died. And they had good fish, too, just overpriced, like most fish houses.

Must suck to be one of the customers that got served whatever left over fish was in the freezer that night.

I only went to Ed's once...walked in, saw the mess, the people, and the smell, then looked at the price...walked out and went to Outback.

I'm sure the food was decent for being a deep friend bonanza of artery clogging goodness but it wasn't for me. I feel for the folks that lost their job.

Companies should be held liable and forced to provide some sort of notice and compensation before just closing the doors.

Ed lost it some years back to a gambling problem in Tunica. Very unfortunate!

Used to go on Monday for lunch when Ed gave a 1 dollar break on the price. He used to come around to the tables and visit with those who wanted to visit. Nice guy. Pretty good food. Then he died.

The place went to Hell. The price was way out of line for what they "served." Any smiles the place had died with Ed. The wait staff was always surly, and the last 2 times I went, I had to ask for refills. My fault. I should have stopped going the first time I was overcharged and got a grouchy "waitress."

I really do miss Ed and HIS catfish place.
