Every month or so I get a letter from the vietnam veterans association. Enclosed is a yellow bag to be filled with shirts, toys, shoes ect. I will set one out from time to time, but I notice only a few bags out on pick up day. This just a reminder for the people who want to give back it only takes a second to put some things in it and put it out by mailbox.

I have never gotten one of these. Lord knows every one else wants something from me!

I agree with helping veterans but if you read the fine print on the yellow bag they ask for jewelry, small appliances as well as clothes. Plus they don't give your stuff to veterans but actually sell your stuff to companies who then in turn probably sell it to vets for even more. I say if you have these things you no longer want then give them to a vet yourself or VFW or somewhere a vet that needs it doesn't have to pay for something you would have thrown away anyway.

There is a guy that calls my place of work asking for donations for the VFW. The first time, we gave him some merchandise for their auction. A month or so later he was calling again, asking for more donations. We have a limited amount that we can donate for a certain period of time, so when I told him that I couldn't help this time around, he got VERY irrate with me on the phone. It really upset me, bc we help any organization anytime that we can. I don't remember his name, but it makes me not want to ever donate to them again.

VFW is a great organization and does a lot of good for the Veterans who have fought for this Country. With that said, sometimes the requests come in quiet frquent and one can only give so much. Anyone soliciting for donations should not be rude or persistent, that's not the VFW's standard or intent. Calling the work place is something that somehow doesn't seem right or legitimate. I would definitely check up on that.
