I Ridgefield a good school to send your child to?
Does it have good curriculum? Do they love your child? Is there a general acceptance there of people or do you have to be rich to be accepted?

Its basically for rich parents who dont want their kids associating with the common kids at public schools.

I have friends that have kids in Ridgefield and Concordia and they all love it. One set of friends are no where near rich and their son goes to Concordia with a partial scholarship though the church. If you want an enviroment of discipline, caring and learning, I'd send them. If I had it all to do over again my kids would have went to private school because there is so much more instruction for kids that learn at a faster rate. Both of my girls are in a gifted&talented program at a public school, but they still are not really challenged by the curriculum, and at private schools they are not taught the "test" as they are in public schools. Not to mention they are not surrounded by kids who could give a crap less about being in school. To be fair to some of those kids, it's not all their fault. A lot of parents aren't and never will be involved with there kid's education until they get subpeonaed to court because of lack of attendance. This is not the case in private school. The kids I really feel sorry for are the ones who could actually do real well if it weren't for the ones that are just there because the law makes them be in public school.

We are FAR from rich, but we see our childrens' education and spiritual well-being as priorities.

i teach at a public school. we have had students come to our school from ridgefield. it was quite an adjustment for them. i feel like, academically, they were where they needed to be, but they were very sheltered (which is not a bad thing!)and coming to a public school was a culture shock.

if i had a school age child and lived in jonesboro, i would choose ridgefield. at one time, they did take children on scholarship---i knew a great grandmother that was helping to raise her great grandchildren---parents were drug heads---they went to ridgefield on scholarship

if i lived outside of the j'boro city limits, in a smaller school district, i would choose that over ridgefield (bay, weiner, brookland, westside)

My kids go to Ridgefield...You can't put a dollar sign on the Christian enviornment....It's a financial stuggle for my children to go there, but I wouldn't have it any other way.

My son attends Ridgefield and we have enjoyed it very much. You are correct that some of the families are wealthy (just as some of the parents in the JBR, VV and NPS schools are) but some of the parents are working just to allow their children to go there. The teachers care very much about their children and the office staff knows each child by name. It's a tight nit community that cares very much about their students and their parents.

Do not let this school suck you in. I sent my daughter to Ridgefield for prek and k. In the first grade we moved into the Valley View district. My daughter was so far behind that I had to hire a private tutor for 3 summers. Her IOWA test scores 's were HORRIBLE in the first grade!!! This is a mother's worst nightmare and I would not want anyone else to have the same experience. Now my daughter is in the fifth grade and is on the all A honor roll after several years of catching up. OF COURSE, she made straight S+ at Ridgefield but obviously not learning a thing. I have the test scores to prove it. My cousin has had the same experience after she took her children out of Ridgefield and put them in the Brookland School district.
As far as being in a Christian Environment, I noticed that the Ridgefield Cheerleaders were having a car wash infront of GATEWAY TIRE. They were flagging down traffic in string bikinis!!! It was amazing that this school would have their names attached to such a site!!! We go to public school and my daughter will never be allowed to participate in something like that.

That is VERY hard to believe. My older child has attended RCS since Pre-K and now is middle school age. She is reading on a high school level and her math skills are equally as high. My younger child is doing very well too. We have been beyond pleased with the school, teachers, and staff.

I attended both a public school and later a private academy. I can assure you between the two, public school was much better academically, not saying Ridgefield Christian is or is not, this I do not know...however I do know it cost a lot of money and with the quality schools in the town, it is just hard to believe that your son or daughter would get a better education there. At these public schools there are a lot more kids to make the children push theirselves to be the best they can be. Now I understand that you cannot put a pricetag on making a good decision for your child...but there are drugs in every school I would assume and every neighborhood. What children need is a mom and a dad together, not a split or single type family. This is a hard thing to find these days but it surely helps. Keep them busy, especially in extracurricular activities which the public schools have too numerous to name. And just maybe with a good christian upbringing they will have a chance. If they fail, don't beat yourself up, just do what you think is right.

Test scores DO NOT lie. Also, my childs first grade teacher at Valley View told me that my child was way behind the Valley View students. I just want other mothers to know what happened in my situation, as well as with my cousin's children. I wish someone would have told me. I was paying for what I thought was the best.......when the best is actually free!!!.....it is called PUBLIC SCHOOLS.

Actually, test scores do lie. I don't like tests because they really aren't always accurate. A child could get off line with their answer sheet, just not test well that day due to being tired, upset, nervous, sick, whatever. Valley View is a top school in Arkansas and your child may have been behind at that school, but might be ahead or on the same level at another school. Hard to say. There are too many factors to consider to be able to just come out and say that Ridgefield is the cause of your child's issues only.

My child's teacher had concerns too. These concerns were expressed well before we had the test scores. It was not just the test scores. Ridgefield tells everyone that their children are so far ahead of the public school system. This is not accurate at all. I just wanted to share my personal experience so others would have pros and cons to decide for themselves. Good Luck.

"when the best is actually free!!!.....it is called PUBLIC SCHOOLS. "

NOTHING IS FREE!!! You cannot put a price on spiritual well being. I love that at Ridgefield, they have the freedom to pray aloud and read the Bible.

You mentioned VV test scores. If VV is so great, why do college freshman that attended VV have so many remedial courses? VV SAT/ACT scores were not as high either. All that info was in the Jonesboro Sun.

I was also looking at putting my child in Ridgefield a few years ago. I was told by a teacher from Jonesboro NOT to do that because the kids come to her in the 7th gradefrom Ridgefield with very low testing scores. I looked into Blessed Sacrement and put her in that school. It is a great school

Why all this discrimination against private schools? Parents have to make their decisions based on what is best for their children. That may mean private school or even home-schooling.
