im fixing to start working in jonesboro and thinking about putting my 4 year old in preschool and wanting some advice. i'll be working on stadium blvd down from nea hopsital and wanting a close school. I get off work at 5 pm so wanting somewhere that does the after school curriculum or something like that.
prefer public school that doesnt cost but willing to consider private schools depending on price.

I'm pretty sure the public preschool's still cost. I know they do within the Nettleton School district.

Even the pre-ks within the public schools charge tuition. Since Pre-K is not required by the state of Arkansas, it is not a free service. The Fox Meadow (Nettleton) Pre-K and the Jonesboro Pre-K Center are both really great programs! I suggest sending your child to whichever one she will attend kindergarten at the next year.

The ABC program that is located at Nettleton University Heights Elementary School or Jonesboro PreK, both are great programs. There is NO charge for these programs.

These programs are free. My son went to ABC at Nettleton for two years and it was free.

yeah I know about ABC our daughter went to preschool in Marmaduke and didnt qualify we make to much (id like to see where we get to keep what we make after bills, geez)

Wow, I know that greene county tech in paragould has free preschool but i couldnt get back to paragould to get her in time b/c i get off at 5 and even with their extended program that cost 20.00 a week they have to be picked up by 5:30

It just depends on the price of tuition of these schools. How close are they to Stadium/Hwy63 b/c I'll be working right around there?

Since its tuition based I dont guess it matters if we dont live in jonesboro then.

Thanks for the info so far:)

I know that Nettleton takes children who live in Nettleton school district first. Have you checked with Discovery Island? They are supposed to be very good. Also my neighbor keeps children and she is very trustworthy and will work with your child. She has a little girl thats almost 3 and she keeps a little one who is about a year old three days a week for a teacher. I live off Stadium too not far from where you work..maybe a mile or two.

a relative of mine use to have their child in discovery island and its 100.00 a WEEK! even if you keep your child in their 3 hours a day its the same price. Although he was 3 or 4 years old they were teaching him spanish and stuff but my child knows spanish from 1-10 for free:) I remember some of it from school myself, basics.

Yeah Im really picky and worried about where she goes b/c all the school shootings and bus wrecks b/c she will not ride a bus. Its so scary to leave my child somewhere after knowing what happens to kids these days. A little girl I babysitted when i was younger was left at daycare and left in the vehicle and died at 3 years old, in a small small town and her daddy was going to kill her b/c it was over getting her computer fixed she forgot about the baby and never spent 1 day in jail. Noway:(

Hmm I may have to remember that then, my child is stubborn and we are wanting her socializing with other kids and making friends she can play with in and out of school.

They have spanish, art, music & drama class at Jonesboro Pre-K. They also have the ABC & a reduced fee program. The director Ms. Diane is wonderful.

hmmm.. well Id like my child to learn spanish, not that i think that we should learn another language living in america but b/c everywhere you turn you hear nothing but spanish and cant get a job in some places wtihout knowing spanish. Since kids are like sponges I think it will be easier to learn at younger age.

wow 85.00 a week, sometimes i think its cheaper to stay home than to work when you figure all that stuff in.

My daughter went to Jonesboro Pre - K about 4 years ago and there was a fee unless you were low income, then it was free.

The pre-k programs cost anywhere from $85 to $100 a week and usually keep the children until 5:30. Nettleton has a waiting list. You need to do some serious calling around and asking where there might be space. Welcome to Jonesboro. It's not hard to find your way around. I strongly suggest a GPS so you aren't limited at all.
