I am more concerned with the 'phrase' they have coined for the Red Wolves.
The billboard on S Caraway near Marble Slab, says "HOWL YES" I would like season football tickets. I am a former ASU athlete and ASU grad, I take great offense to that phrase. What message are we trying to send. If you are going to insinuate cuss words, might as well say it.
I am embarrassed for my children to see those signs. Shame on ASU and whoever came up with that slogan!!!!

Gee, one more grave problem facing the world...the kids learn what a euphemism is.
One reason American society is so insular and complacent is because silly matters such as these become a focus rather than learning about and addressing truly important issues in the world. American middle-class kids are truly fortunate if "Howl Yes" is to any degree a significant issue.

The Red Wolves idea is unoriginal and an example of corporate thinking--when marketers are hired to determine a theme, they'll pick something hackneyed and appealing to the lowest common denominator. Case in point: two weeks after ASU became the Red Wolves, other marketers doing similar research were also convincing Indian University East to adopt the same name. And they did.
On the bright side, ASU can always turn the Red Wolves logo upside down and become The Fleas.

Ball, I agree, very distasteful. Being a state college someone should call their hand on this.

i say we need to focus all of our attention on "howl yes" and turn our heads on the drug abuse, child abuse, hungry kids, high gas prices, underage drink, std's and teen pregnancy in this town. unless your amish believe me your child has heard the word HELL everywhere and more than likely by their parent, the radio, tv, school or other kids. get a life and focus on the REAL problems in this town

I not ashamed of HOWL YES. I just think it is a bad marketing idea. Use all the old phrases that have been used forever-Wolf Pack, Wolves on the prowl...blah blah....All the old Indians fans just need to let it go and move forward. It's about the kids that play the game not the name of the team.

I live out of town and am an ASU alumni. I saw the HOWL YES billboard the other day while I was there, thought it was hilarious, briefly thought some fuddy-duddys might not like it, then forgot all about it. Then I saw on the news a week later that some people said that it "wasn't very positive." As if 99% of people don't say or hear the word "hell" every day of their lives and think nothing of it. I guess these same people don't watch prime-time television. Or maybe they just don't let their children watch prime-time television. Anyway, I can't stand it when people complain about things that mean absolutely nothing, so the next time I'm in town, I'm having my picture taken with the billboard!! HOWL YES!!!!!!!!

I saw where the Doug Doggit said its primary mission was to get fans excited. Well, I must say the game play on the field is what I get excited about. Is Howl Yes a bad thing? Well, thats not my call, per say. I don't like it where phrases have two different meanings. One thing I would consider, is little kids running around school yelling Howl yes to the teachers. Its supposed to be a cute play on words, but coming from the school thats paid for by tax payers, I prefer to keep the play on words when its refering to a cuss word down.

We have enough people in this world who uses profanity and it only shows the lack of creative marketing from ASU. Its the sleeze approach and its created a buzz and negative press is better than no press, I guess.

I would prefer to keep the buzz on the field and let that be the marketing buzz.

I play on words like that, can come back to bite you, if there is nothing to back anything up. I am sure this type marketing plays to the redneck class, and I am sure the shirt will be just so funny. But all this takes from the traditions of what once used to be a fine upstanding school.

I am waiting with baited breath on whats next out of their marketing department. I can see it now, plastered all over T-shirts. "Howl Yes, this Bitch is a Red Wolf." "Wanted Red Wolf for Stud Fees."
Maybe Doug will print some up saying this Doggit is a Red Wolf.

they need to get to work on another logo asap - something real looking or maybe just a profile.

i don't like the logo - it has no real eyes.
eyes are usually the the most dominate and visible feature of any animal. the bent spoon eyes look terrible. the big-eared grinch or chinese/yodi face in the center in red is too dominate. the white and black border is not needed.

Here's another way of looking at it: university football contributes nothing to the institution except financial deficits. Those who feel it is relevant have an obligation to buy all the t-shirts, coffee cups, and other distracting crap in order to help offset the costs as much as possible.
If everyone shared your priorities, the football deficit would go even higher.

The sign has been taken down, and I think they got the message, sad it took so long though. Maybe they will keep the marketing off the sleezy side. And this really disappoints me in the responsible people out there in charge of these things.
