Why does kroger promote the card. It seems to hurt customers who doesn't have one by cost then, also an inconvenience for those who do have it. Why not price the same across the board.

Loyalty, how hard is it for you to present it, heck, you don't even have to have it on you, just give them your name and phone#.

it is one way to give discounts to regular shoppers and a way to notify when a purchase has been recalled by the manufacturer. You can go to krogers website and have coupons downloaded to the card.

The card is free so there really is not reason to get one. And before you say it, all major chains are keeping track of your purchases - shopper card or not.

I forgot, I do not have to dig out my card. It is small enough to be on my keychain.

Like Bothell, WA said-

It's no big deal, just go to the customer service counter, ask for a card and they will ask for your phone number.
As long as you can REMEMBER YOUR PHONE NUMBER you don't have to have the card. Just give them your phone number each time you shop.

Or keep going to China Mart and pay higher prices on many of the items.

I like kroger but just saying why make your customers fill out a form, or dig for a card. Free or not why not just level the prices for all. This seems it would incise more new customers . As far as keeping up with recalls I see other businesses have no issues with this with no card. Besides discounts on line is the way to go. I don't want to dig for my card or give my name and number out for all in line to hear

You don't have to say anything out loud, you simply type your phone number into the keypad on the credit card machine. Actually, you don't even have to have your own card, they have one they will scan for you. The only downfall to that is you can't rack up the points for the gas discount.

As was mentioned, I use the one on my key chain, I assume you drive to Kroger? I think you want to whine about something for no reason, but carry on if it makes your day. I know I appreciate my $.20/gal discount I get every month, I try to have one of my other vehicles in the family fuel up at the same time.

Sure, they can make everything the regular price, and not give a discount at all. Happy now?

No wasn't whining. Started this thread to find out why kroger has the card. I only seen the negatives without knowing any positives. But you've now awnsered my question. I see now that you get gas discounts. Thanks for being critical of me asking though.

The Kroger card is wonderful! I even have a Kroger Visa which I pay off every month. In addition to the discounts at the store (gas and groceries) I recieve coupons in the mail and a 25.00 check to be used at Kroger every few months. Can't beat that! Since I'd much rather patronize Kroger than WalMart it's a win win for me. Much nicer environment to shop in up.

Among other things is so price-matching competitors have a harder time stealing customers.
Digital coupons and coupons mailed out to the card holders all work towards improving the relation between the store and those that choose to stop there. They want to know what works and what doesn't. If you know a better way to stop customer loss fill out one of the surveys they offer their customers.

They track your purchases and send you coupons for items you actually purchace. They always send me a coupon for a free dozen eggs, cheerios and sometimes pizza or other items. I love adding coupons from kroger.com to my card.

Cash Saver does have good meat prices but most of their other items are way more expensive than Kroger. Kroger's meat quality is much better also.

Kroger has much lower prices overall. You can probably find some things that are more. You overall shopping list will be much less at Kroger.

How is a lower price too expensive?

You can always go somewhere else and pay more.

I agree. Wal-Mart is byfar cheaper than Krogers, even with sale items. Plus they do price matching if something is cheaper somewhere else.
