Jonesboro has too much HUD. That is why the neighborhoods are all looking like slums.
If anyone on here can give me an address of a well kept HUD house, that is kept up by the tenant. I will kiss their butt.

HUD house= Broken toys strewn about the yard, grass knee deep, window screens torn off, doors torn off the hinges. Mailboxes on the ground from kids swinging from them. Trash cans sit in same spot for weeks, with trash strewn all around them........owners are too lazy to pick it up and even push it to the curb.
Curtains are usually bed sheets or something else nailed up over the windows. If the slum lord has window shades installed, they are always torn up, raised on one side and down on the other.

NASTINESS !

These people need to be eradicated and forced to live with their elderly parents. The old eyesores that have been ravished by HUD people over the years need to be torn down. If they all had to live with a parent or grandparent, at least Jonesboro would only look 1/2 as nasty as it does now.

I completely agree with you... and half of the people that live in them are nasty lazy people.... I agree some people need them and its a good idea for those who do need it, but half of the ones that live in them are abusing the system because they are TOO lazy to get out and get a damn job.

If people don't have to get out and work to take care of themselves and their children......then why in the hell can't they at least keep their homes and property that they are renting clean and picked up???

People that fit this......really need to be taken out and shot, they are too lazy to freaking breathe if it were not a natural body function.

What purpose would they even have on the earth??

Well if the hud office would do their job n check on these people n write them up then maybe just maybe they would stop messing up like checking on whos living there n whose not it would save taxs payers money plus do drug test on them also. there are people living in hud places thats not on the lease..plus deadbeat druggie dads staying at the homes while their deadbeat mom is living it up on our tax paying money...eating better than us with a job.. now im not bashin people that needs it its just the fact of them not even tryin to work n having their boyfriends living with them like these mexicans having kids with these white girls n they getting all the help while they the mexicans are getting paid cash and thats more more for them and we are paying for their keeps cause the hud office dont check on them in their homes like they need too...

There's good and bad in all tenants not just subsidized or public housing. Both parties tenant and landlord positively benefit from it if the they take care of the properties . The hateful comments I've heard on this site are troubling because people no longer want to help oneanother. I liked your comment and I totally agree.

Agreed! But the government would only resort to paying people to do it for them.

I totally agree but lets not forget about the ones where daddy is a drug dealer mommy is popping out more kids and getting wic & food stamps & hud & medicaid and living it up nice cars nice clothes everything they want when I am a single mother who cant get any help because they think I make to much money and often way to often have to worry about how to keep a roof over our heads and food in our tummys. I seriously would be doing better I didn't work but my momma raised me better than that our system really needs to be changed we need to stop rewarding laziness and I am not talking about the poor laid-off people or young moms in college or people that geniunely need it just the abusers!

I agree also...

Although I don't live in Jonesboro...
And I'm a person of color...

But I totally agree with this post...
I see daily, with my own eyes, how these tenants are...the mentality they bring with them...and the crowd they attract...

As a hard working induvisual...who gets up, works, pays for everything out of my own pocket...

i don't want to live around the leach class anymore...

It's not like the 50's or 60's or even 70's...where families actually strove to be more...to lift their offspring...

It's not like that no more...

Now it's like being 'gutter' and or 'hood'...is celebrated and embraced...

People now act hood or gutter...even when they don't have to...go figure...

Even when transplanted into a nice decent area, instead of changing, to match the soroundings...they instead double down on being 'hood' or 'gutter'...with no intention of 'growing' or evolving out of current situation...

And all they do is make life misserable for those around them...and they don't care...

Like living around people without a social conscious...they just don't care...

I'm not making this up...
My views on a lot of things have changed...since I now actually live around this hood stuff...

But it's like the government is determined to bring the hood to you...

Like portable hoods...coming to you soon...

All in the name of what??

There is nothing to be learned from people who embrace this mentality...

I've seen this stuff first hand...
How they act all nice and orderly when renter is around...and as soon as renter leaves...break out the drgs, invite odd people over...do wierd things...

ignore noise ordinances...people like this, with this mentality, should not be rewarded with free housing...

I completely agree. I see, too often, in Jonesboro that HUD has overrun a part part of the city. Granted, I applied for HUD in 2009. Over 3 years later I was actually approved. A shocker to myself of course. I am not a minority and have not recieved any assistance like this before. I still reside in my house (not apartment,) have a nice paying job (and will have better one after degree,) pay my normal bills, pay for my own phone, not a government phone, shell out waaaayyy too much money to ASU (I'm a senior), and can still pay for luxuries like internet for my research. I do not have an HDTV nor do I have cable television. I do not get to pig out on junk food and have no desire to pop out kids, um they're expensive and needy you know? It is ridiculous to see sooo many people who abuse this privilage that I, among others and I would say a small amount,) are very jealous of. I think if you are on HUD, you should do your part. Don't sit on your butt waiting for another entitlement go get a job! Sheesh even if it is McDonalds, at least you could TRY to be self-sufficiant. I am not a minority and probably would have had a lead in Section8 had I be. Drug testing should definitely be enabled to "weed" out the deserving poor from the rest of the deadbeat society. SSI is abused, foodstamps are being sold, these trailers and apartments are completely trashed oh my goodness to such an extent. I may not have matching funiture but golly it's clean and nice. My house is tidy unlike others on HUD who will not even vacuum nor sweep! If their homes look awful on the outside I can only imagine what their 6 kids have to live inside. How awful. My point is, I will be the first to tell you living off the government is no way to be and provides a low quality of life though they are living better than me?! I go to college, I am succeeding, I do not see a child as a paycheck, I do not desire to live in filth, and I certainly do not believe in depending on the government to take care of myself. No sir. I am a Republican, holy moly did I jsut shock you? Look, I am not going to be on Section 8 very long, I'm almost finished with my degree and I will be kicked off as soon as I get a teaching position (that's right, I'm not an overrated social work major either.) Thing is, HUD makes me look bad but my home doesn't have to be. I chose not to live like the majority of HUD people. That's not how I was raised. Help the ones that try, not the ones who expect to be taken care of by your tax dollars. Do these people not want to strive to be middle-class? The house I live in is not free, I do pay, my rent just got knocked down from where it was. Though I have a job and that might be why I pay. If I had no job, well, I don't know, maybe the HUD would be free. But I'm not going to lower my self just because it's comfortable. I want the few, and boy do I mean few, of us who are on Section8 who see this as a blessing everyday, to have this benefit, not the ones sitting on their fat...butts. This is something to grow out of, not live in. The abusers outweigh the deserving in my experience. I see it all too well now. Much more than before. You have a right to think like this, because it's true guys. It's really that coorupt. They live in filth when they have ample time to clean. There is no justification for this. How awful. Our economy is, as we all know, is worse than ever before, our national debt has risen by 50%, more people are on food stamps now than any other president, our jobless rate stands at 8.7%, big government is not what this economy needs. Not to thrive. The only way to reduce the deficit and debt is to grow our way out of it and that means we must provide businesses with the assurance that taxes, labor costs, and regulations all be fair. Without a turnaround, we will all be searching for Section8 for dependence, not assistance.

Lets get back to basics on ANY rental unit. If a landlord does not care what's happening at his or her property, then it doesn't matter who lives there. If they simply wait for the check and ignore the property then it makes no difference. There are 3 houses on our block that are on HUD and they were horrible. We called the police many times, loud parties, garbage, cars coming and going at all hours with stereo's booming as they went by and the owner cared NOTHING about it. We even looked the owner up at www.arcountydata.com and called him personally and they didn't care. It was a neighborhood effort and we still couldn't get anything done. Then, he lost them in foreclosure and that was the best thing that ever happened. The new owner still rents them on HUD but doesn't tolerate riff raff. He checks them regularly and the couple times we have had trouble, it wasn't long before he evicted them. Our neighborhood is nice a nice safe place again and we have all personally thanked him!

The last landlord lived out in snooty Valley View and didn't care because it didn't effect him. The new landlord lives in the area and it matters to him. It all comes back to money! Some landlords see the bigger picture and some only want the money and don't care who it harms. When you see one of those homes that's tore apart and trashed, it shouldn't just tell you about the person renting it, it should also tell you about the person who owns it and allows it to happen.

We took care of our own properties for year. Decided to let a management company take care of them, bad idea, they didn't care. Thought they were managing but they were just gathering profits. Almost lost our ass in damages after we took them over again.
