Wow ... meow. Talk about small town attitude. As a visitor I have to say that this has to be one of the most wasted forums I've ever read. This reads like a Messenger Chat between junior high school kids, not a topic being discussed by what I assume are full grown adults. "Gracious", I would like to know where you are from and how you think cities get started. "just wondering" should really study the diverse foundations which he/she named and how much of the money raised is actually put back into the community directly to cancer patients and their families, and also to diverse children's events. People may use them as tax shelters, but that doesn't mean the money doesn't go to a good purpose. "knowsbetter" and "GST" seem to have minds that are open to finding out the truth ... good for you. To all of the ones from "such a loser" and down ... it's my opinion that your gossip and catty remarks would be better served via the telephone. Interesting that the only two decent posts would have lemons marking them. "What on earth ever happened to honor, responsibility and honesty?" Interesting question. Hmmm.
Being a breast cancer survivor,I HAVE studied those "diverse" foundations that you've named and I know for a fact from several MD's that they are huge tax shelters, and that was their driving purpose when they set them up.
I've also attended some of these functions myself. No,not to get my picture in Occasions.I've seen them bypass women with amazing survival stories from cancer, that were not as "well heeled" or a "known entity" such as some of the girls that actually WORK at St.Bernard's with cancer support,(what the --- are THEY doing in there?)to put those named in their magazine.
Perhaps the other ladies weren't as well dressed either. These have been my observations several times over, and I've seen little to change my ideas on it.I prefer to directly donate to ACS or Susan Komen and skip all the fa dee la now.
And for the record,"lovedogs" has just been named the creme de la creme of Topix critics.Guess you'll be in Occasions soon,if you aren't already.

I applaud your strength and courage as a survivor, and I've nothing against your opinion regarding the photography (but in a town of just over 50,000 residents it is to be expected). I found the following if you are interested ... American College of Physicians: Awards and Masterships 2009-2010 : Edward R. Loveland Memorial Award for a Distinguished Contribution in the Health Field. Recipients include: 1997 Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, 2008 NEA Clinic Charitable Foundation … both seem to be doing good work ( www.acponline.org ). Lastly, if my opinions have been recognized as anything other than what they are then they need to reconsider; my opinions are definitely not the "creme de la creme".

Occasions is totally small town...all those cheesy faux high society photos and their stupid "Best Of" nonsense. Jonesboro is a wannabe city, and Occasions is just more veneer and astroturf.

I have attended charitable auctions and dinners as seen in these types of publications (Occasions, etc.) both here and in other cities in which I have lived. Yes, some of these people love to see themselves in print. Many others, however, are very generous people who freely give of their time, talent, and treasure to support local philanthropic activities. So, before you criticize the "movers and shakers" in your community, realize that without their benevolence, many well-deserving local charities would founder!

I wouldn't waste any of my 'me' time looking at it but it does give you something to do after you've finished the novel you brought along to read in the waiting room of the doctor whose picture is page 13!

He admitted it to his wife - he cheated on her with someone else at the magazine. How is that an example of a good Christian leader???????!!

Good point but I prefer to read it in the toilet. I'll stop there and pass on the obvious wisecrack.

They should just call it the "Perfect Teeth- Tanning Bed-Social Climbers" I feel sorry for the one plus-size gal that get pictured standing next to 5 Plantation Barbies. To be fair there are some really great people in there too but those Bimbo Barbies have "look at me; I'm so gorgious don't you wish you were me!" radiating off their faces. Let's see em in 10 years when they've been traded in for a newer model and they're 50lbs heavier and those perfect boobs are needing a 2nd tune up! Lol

I am proud to never have appeared in Jonesboro Occasions, despite being at many of the charity benefits. Best to fly under the radar, so to speak!

I wish some of the rich people would do something with their yellow teeth. Get porcelain veneers or something...geesh...it's so gross to see you smiling so big and proud with those teeth.

Has anyone else ever noticed that many of these people could take what they spend on clothes & accessories to attend a charity function and actually just give that money to the charity. "Honey, I had to spend $900 for an outfit to wear to the hundred dollar a plate charity ball!" And I agree with the poster above that NEA and St. Bernie's Foundations are just cash cows for the "Non-Profit" orgs!

First of all, if you were Steve Watkins, you would leave too. Run is more like it. His x wife is not only extremely unattractive but I heard a real bull dog to deal with. For a social magazine the people they have working there are not only bull dogs to deal with but dog ugly. Sorry but you would think they would care more about image. Down hill steady.
