Ok, so my daughter was with a guy that was caught shoplifting at Walmart. Because she was with him, she was arrested too.
We went to court, she paid the fine, is doing her community service, etc (and dumped the guy)
So now a month or so later, she gets a letter from The Law Office of Michael Ira Asen, PC from Port Washington NY. Demanding $200
it reads as follows.......

OK........so is this a scam? This seems just stupid to me, we paid fine thru court, etc.
and please don't beat me up over all of the typo's or that my daughter was arrested for shoplifting.
Just wondering if anyone else has heard of this.
It's not a scam. Here is the code. They have the right to a civil suit.

I am the original poster. We ignored the letters & they stopped coming.

There was no civil judgement only the criminal judgement (which she paid)

I truly believe that it was a scam. Perhaps w Walmarts blessing, but not
enforceable.

its not a scam they do have the right to sue. The just wanted to see if you would go ahead and pay it because its more expensive to go to court and they only wanted 200 dollars restitution.

My daughter stole a $40 necklace and paid $700 in court fines and pled guilty to an ordinace violation. They claim they sent 3 letters however we did not get anything and I work with the courts so i would NEVER had ignored any correspondance. They now wat $150 I have forwarded the letters which I printed offline that we never received and it reads this is NOT an attemt to collect a debt so I am not paying until our attorney tells me if this is legitimate or not

looks like you do mean to disrespect anyone and everyone in this thread. You seemed like a stupid jerk. Of course you say your daughter was not involved. Just like any mother with blinders who cannot see that her daughter is nothing but a ho who shoplifts then lies.
Can you NOT understand what you read. I wonder if your story is really true - especially when you also get disrespectful every time someone suggested you see a lawyer.
now you can go back to the bar and earn your spending money.
What a effin douche bag! People like you make me want to puke, hiding behind your keyboard talking crap cause someone has a genuine question. Not everyone can be like you and live off of welfare, sitting at your computer 24/7 looking to stir up some shit cause you don't have the balls to do it face to face! Karma its a Bitch and you'll get yours guaranteed! Have a nice day....

whats the matter, the truth hurts. I dont see your name on your post, you talk about others hiding behind a keyboard but what about an inbreed like you.

As far as living on welfare, well you are just jealous. I can buy brand names - you have to buy generics, I can live in a house and not make any payments or pay utilities - you cannot. I get all my medical, dental and other personal care free - you cannot. I get free cellphones - you cannot. As long as you provide the my financial support - why should I want to give it all up and get a job?

My son got one of these letters to. I agree he needs to pay for his mistake because I certainly am not. I did not raise him to steal and he's well past the age to know better. I was glad he got caught and went to the county jail for 5 days...a lesson well learned for not taking to heart the results of stealing.
I have no idea how he is going to pay civil charge, he has no job and hasn't had any luck in getting a job. He is still in school. I am not calling any law office and i am not going to court with him. He wants to do of this sort of thing he is going to have to figure out how to take care of it. I did not help him steal and i'm not helping pay for his crime.
I only feel helpless in that he was wanting to join the military after he finished school, but i guess that mistake ruined any chance of that. A video game will haunt him for some years to come.

Do your homework. A misdemeanor will not exclude him from the military. This post thread is to find out about the letter received demanding more money not to hear how you are mom of the year and how you left your highschooler to fend for himself.

I hate Walmart. I think think Walmart is the devil. Walmart deserves to be picketed and unionized. They suck in every way. They treat their employees like shit and drive out businesses. I hate bullies like Walmart

yeh, totally true. We should have "Picket Walmart Day" or "No Shopping at Walmart Day" as a national holiday. Such events would be cause for celebration.

You do have a good point and I'm incline to agree with you regarding costing tax payers more money.

I do not live off of anyone & have been gainfully employed for over 25 years. Most of those years were as a single mom.
Bet you had state help even when employed. Lol
