Anybody have any experience with Hughes internet services? Good or bad? How about Wild Blue? Anybody know anything about that internet service?
We live out in the country and have very few options and are looking at some different internet services.
Thanks for any input.

you really do not want it unless absolutely necessary. You could be better off getting your internet through a wireless company using a wireless modem - if you get good cell service where you live.
It is okay as long as you use it only for emails and casual surfing - as long as the pages you surf dont have any large graphics. Their fair usage policy is terrible so forget movies, games, and anything else that uses bandwidth.
The Download Allowance is the amount of data which can be downloaded without restriction within a rolling 24-hour period. The Basic plan Download Allowance is 250 MB. The Power 150 plan Download Allowance is 350 MB. The Power 200 plan Download Allowance is 450 MB.
You can find all kinds of reviews about it just by a simple search. Just remember they require a two year contract.

If you have a land line you can always try dial up like AOL. I miss it keeping the line busy because I didn't like talking to telemarketers anyway.

Thanks for any input. Don't do it!! Terrible service, down all the time and their Fair Usage Policy makes it worthless. I changed my cellphone plan which allows me to generate my own wireless Hot Spot and it is 100 times better than Hughes Net.

In addition to the "Fair Use Policy" (a.k.a. the Bullshit Policy), the service is far too laggy for any online gaming that requires low lag, like World of Warcraft, real-time strategy games, or shooter games. You won't be playing ANY of those games online with HughesNet.
Due to the Fair Use Policy, you won't really be able to use Netflix or Hulu, either. Streaming video is going to be impossible unless you are just watching short clips on YouTube or a similar site. Be careful not to reach your limit in the day, though, or you won't be doing much of ANYTHING until it resets (and it does reset late much of the time).
If they can't support giving customers a reasonable amount of bandwidth, especially in this day and age where nearly everything can be done online, they shouldn't be charging what they charge for the service. After all these years of charging people $70 or more per month, you would think they could have upgraded their infrastructure so that customers can actually take advantage of the Internet service they pay for.
Nope.
HughesNet is NOT accredited by the Better Business Bureau, either. I can't imagine why not.
Google for all the complaints people have about them and you will see why not.

My HughesNet experience in the country is much better than the "BS Policy" poster. I use my Ipad from my cabin in the mountains and avoid d/l movies. It's not for interactive games or streaming movies but great for everything else. I used to have wireless and found it good at first but disappointing after the first few mos. Also, HughesNet IS an accredited BBB company with an A+ rating. I checked that out first and decided to investigate. Their BBB rating comes from the way the handle complaints.

Which are routed to India and Pakistan and are many complaints! I spent more time angry than online.

I got hughes net a few years back, paid a lot of money upfront and they never mentioned anything about the "Fair access Policy" it was installed with a $200 installation fee . First thing I did was go to YouTube and started watching videos........for about an hour is was awesome. I had been on dial up forever and was blown away by the speed. Then ....nothing....I called Hughes net and they said I had violated the Fair Access Policy... I said the What??? Then they explainedit to me...I said I never agreed to that... why the hell would I. I want Netflix I want YouTube I want to download movies....,hey said well we have a phone conversation, where u agreed to it....I said well I want, to hear It....they said we can't do that....I said well I want money back....hey said the installation fee is nonrefundable.... I was fuming by now and said this is bullshit.... so they offered a month free and like an idiot agreed. Hey said I could purchase a higher plan for twenty dollars more which would give me 100 more mbs a month.I was all ready paying 59.95. I said what the hell good would that do....one Netflix movie is like 400mbs I can't even watch that...and if I went over I had to unplug the tower completely or I would still use data and it would keep adding to it and would never go back to full speed....so I would unplug for twentyfour hours...then it would be ok till I went over again. Bottom line. If u check your email....and surf the web a little then u might be OK.... more than that ....u are screwed! Don't get it. After 18 months on a two year contract I final found a wireless company and canceled the Hughes net.....they sent me a bill for over 400 dollars... I had to file a complaint with the BBB...finally the cut me free! When one of the supervisor's called me to talk about it. I said I have unlimited internet now....he was so smug and said sir there is no such thing as unlimited.... I said I beg to differ u smug prick, the wireless I have now has been running Netflix movies for two weeks straight.... non freaking stop because I put a movie on and just walk away....just because I can. Always, he same speed never an over charge! Plus its half the price with faster speed. If you have any other options TAKE THEM, NOT HUGHES NET! That company is the Devil... is such a thing existed! They are assholes and the customer services from India you can't even understand, if u demand someone who speaks English it takes forever! Just don't do it!!!! Please!!!!! For the love of all thats holy!!!!Save yourself and RUN AWAY!!!!

If you live in an area where the only broadband available is through Hughesnet or Verizon, I'd definitely take Hughesnet.
I had Verizon and they kept claiming I was using 15 gigs per month, and charging me $10 per gig over the 10 gigs I aleady purchased for $80. IOW, I was paying $130 per month just for internet service.
With Hughesnet, I never have used more than the allotted amount of 500 megabytes per day. And even if I do, it only slows down the connection speed until the daily download limit resets at the end of the 24 hour period.
So, pay $60 per month for Hughesnet or $130 per month for Verizon. Not a hard choice for me.

You have to do it manually through your browser settings.

Considering that I'm not an online gamer, don't stream videos or music, and don't upload or download pics, there's no way I could use 15 gigabytes per month. Of course Verizon says they know I used that much because that's what the little wifi box tells them. What they can't tell me is how they know the little wifi box is accurately measuring the data. And of course you can either continue to pay for data you don't use, pay an extortion fee to terminate the contract, or have your credit ruined. I know I will never use Verizon again for internet service.

I know I will never use Verizon again for internet service. what I am talking about is general webpages. some of them will download their graphics in advance. some of the pictures/backgrounds in the pages, videos in ads and stuff are pretty good size. They are not compressed. Then you have your different software updates. They can be extremely large - especially windows updates. Total it all together, it can add up. As far as measuring usage. I agree, it is very inaccurate but not by gigs.

It doesn't work half of the time and they are overpriced. They charge a premium price and they won't reimburse you if it doesn't work. Somebody should hire a lawyer and sue them for stealing.

They are based out of the closest city near me. They are so much better. I get 1.5 mbs for only 29.95. Sure wish that kind of service was available for all rural areas.
