Valley View just is not one of them. The Three Stooges had it more together. Before anyone says anything about how I know, I have watched them in action. Not to mention the begging in front of Wal-Mart and having a fire truck, that the taxpayers of their district paid for and expect to be providing coverage, out there with them. They cannot legally run their emergency lights in the city limits, if I'm not mistaken, to get to the fire. It is also pathetic that they set a boot out on the corner of their table when that is a nationally recogized symbol for collecting for MDA. If they are hurting that bad for funds, they can have their board ask the Quorum Court for a raise in fees. I have also witnessed other departments in the county such as Philadelphia, Bay, Bono, Southridge, and Brookland, they are very professional. You very seldom see any of them blowing through Jonesboro like their head was on fire and their butt was catching. The actions of some of the Valley View firefighters(and I use that term loosely)are dangerous, stupid and just plain show a disregard for the general public that are on the streets with them. I just hope that one of them never has a wreck while responding because that person, their family and the department do not have enough insurance to cover the lawsuits. Also, if you are one of these people who runs emergency devices on your personal vehicle, you might want to ask your insurance agent if you covered? Most companies will not take that risk to insure, and are not liable to cover you if you crash while responding. There are great volunteers out there but it only takes one bad apple to spoil the whole barrell and Valley View have an orchard full of bad apples.

You must not know anyone from Valley View. These guys are great. They work very hard every week training and always put others before themselves. They have numerous fundraisers throughout the year to raise money for their departments expenses. These guys are very professional!!!!! I have witnessed them not only train for fires and accidents but fight fires as well. All the departments in this county are great!

I cannot sit and let you disrespect these guys without responding to your comments!!!!

The VVFD is not supported by any city funds like Bono. Brookland, ect. Before you make any statement about volunteer deoartments having fundraisers- you might want to examine what a small budget these rural departments have to operate on- you might better understand the need for fund raisers!

The boot- the boot is a symbol of the fire fighter- not any charitable orginization! We do not lie or misrepresent what we are raising money for our the ladies auxiliary takes great pride in the way they conduct fundraisers!!!

No department is perfect. Our firefighters are told not to drive above speed limit and to always be careful and respectful of others when responding to a fire. If someone is seen doing otherwise they are repremanded!

I am not sure what your real reason for tageting this department is- I would hope you could take a little time on a friday nite and come to one of their training meetings and see just how professional these guys are!!

I have to disagree with you on one thing. I work downtown in Jonesboro and EVERY DAY trucks some by with their lights and sirens going so I don't know why you think they can't do this in the city limits.

I think he's talking about responders whose district is outside the city, and respond from inside the city. If you are on a county FD, and respond to a call, I don't believe you are supposed to run your emergency signals inside Jonesboro city limits.

Actually- I spoke with the AR State Patrol and it is the law that you are to run your lights and siren at anytime you are respoding. Futhermore- it is against the law to not do so! really though all this is off the main subject- i just wanted this to be about thanking those who provide these services to us.

This whole thing about VVFD soliciting funds in the Jonesboro city limits I have to admit shouldn't be allowed. They do not serve the citizens of Jonesboro but go were the money is. The scarey thing is Ive seen a VVFD truck on Southwest Drive doing a car wash right. Guy was in his boots pants and suspenders without a shirt and I thought I was going to puke. I couldn't help but think how many passer-bys had mistaken them for Jonesboro guys. There is one dude for VVFD with the last name Leonard. Class act, I tell you. Every time they get a call he squalls his tires from his drive way to the street in the city limits of Jonesboro mind you. Wear that T-shirt proud boy. I am not affiliated with any FD but am aware of professional versus volunteer debate and agree cause my Dad was a union man and that every volunteer takes a paying job from someone. Believe it. Oh yea, did yall ever see that car with the lightbar that hung off both side of the car by a foot. Sweet! Oh yea, what is it they say save the lot.

Just wondering why every volunteer firefighter looks like they never bathe. Is it because they stay so busy saving lives.

this will be my last post!

Valley View Fire Department does serve the citizens of Jonesboro! Many of the homes in our district are within Jonesboro!

we have not done a carwash on southwest drive- I should know because I am the one who coordinates them!

75% of all fire fighters are volunteers and many of the great leaders of this country- past and present have been volunteer fire fighters!!!

My husband works full time. I have seen him stay up all night responding to fires or first responder calls and then go and work his regular job. He does not have to do this. He does this out of respect for his community. I have seen him go to hardy and marmaduke and miss work to help those communities! I have seen him assist many other departments within our area as well.

My husband is not the only man that does this. There are many great guys on these volunteer departments. I am sure that there are not so great ones too. Its that way on paid departments as well.

The point is- they are not getting paid to do this! They do it out of service to their community.

They deserve our respect!

I really think there are some good rural departments.

It has nothing to do with paid vs volunteer as most of the small towns don't have the funds to hire firefighters 24/7 so people step up to make their town a safer place---on their own time with limited training and equipment.

I know what your saying sha and I agree

Sorry sha, corner of Southwest and Culberhouse. You know the video store. And what part of jonesboro does VVFD cover. Let me know cause I'm calling the Mayor. I hope it's not my part or hope my insurance company doesn't know.

you know what- I will tell you one thing- I bet if you ever need them, you'll be glad to see them arrive! If you want to know who covers what- go see the county judge- get alittle knowledge it may do you some good! By the way- we did not have a carwash there either- might have been Cash!

The boot is the symbol for MDA fundraising by professional firemen, to which is supported by Paid professional firemen. Placing a boot out there is a misrepresentation by volunteer firemen unless you are using the funds for MDA. The JFD union members uses the boot for the Fill the Boot campaign, and other volunteer fire departments coming into town to use the same symbol for collection is wrong.

It is wrong for volunteer firefighters collecting in the city anyways. They need to collect from the people they protect. And tell me where a house is located in the city, that a volunteer department is called first to respond? There isn't one. If a volunteer department is called they are called from the JFD as a mutual aid. Don't lie and say you protect houses in the city. Cause you don't unless the city fire call you.

Ok this really is my last post-

Its just so hard to sit and watch you guys right such mean things and then make comments out of pure ignorance!

The boot- is a boot! It is worn by fire fighters to protect their feet. Its a boot!!!!

To say it is wrong to collect in the city is just plain stupid! We are a Craighead County Fire Department! Last time I checked- Jonesboro is in this county. We do all our business in this city.

Like I said before if you want to know where each district serves just go to the judge and get a map.

People we need all our fire fighters, paid and volunteer. These are great people and they all need to be appreciated along with the other first responders! It just makes me sick to hear people say such mean things about these guys.

Sha, if I were a member of VVVFD I would kindly ask you to get off of this message board and quit misrepresenting the VVVFD with your internet researched statistics and inaccuracys of fire districts for the sake of our integrity.

If I were your husband I would say get the f**k off the computer and do some work.
