Thinking of moving to the area. Highly educated in Early Childhood Education. Wondering which childcare centers I should apply at which ones to avoid and normal hourly pay. If anyone could give me some hints would be much appreciated.

Honestly?? How much is typical starting pay? What is your minimum wage there? It is almost 8 where I currently live & just trying to get enough info to make an educated decision.

You will be lucky to get 30 hrs at daycares around here and make 7.25 a lot of them around here and family and friend ran and won't hire outside or they hire a bunch of nasty people that will work for nothing! It is very hard to find a decent daycare around here behind closed doors. I have worked at 4 in town and wouldn't put my dogs there! That is why mine stay with family when I work! You would be better off starting up an at home daycare with 4 or 5 kids

Wow! I am shocked. Guess it would be better to stay where I am. I can't believe that in a town that large that is the best pay and hours.

That's what I thought I live working with kids but it is a joke here!!! Kidspot is a good place to work and discovery island is good and take certified teachers over others

Discovery Island might take them over others, but the pay is not more.

Not sure of that but it is real sad that the people with experience and that really do care can't get paid more than the ones with no experience and the ones that don't care at all they are just there for drug money!

I worked at Discovery Island for 2 years almost. With 6 years experience, I started out at $9.00 an hour and quickly got a raise. I worked 7 hour days Monday-Friday. Very good place to work and it pays well based on your job performance and experience. Good luck! I know not all child care centers pay well, but some do.

So as daycare workers with experience, what type of pay, hours, etc are you looking for? raises expectations? Top out pay?

I personally have 14 years experience, a CDA, and an almost complete associates degree. I expect $10 per hour 30-40 hours per week. Raise expectations not really much at all. Would like some perks ex week paid vacation and some leniency with children's appts. I realize now in your area that is not realistic. It's pretty sad though that in an area as big as yours, that people who are helping to raise your children are paid this low!! Where I live now I work in a pretty small center and get better benefits than the ones I listed.

Discovery island has no benefits and you do not get breaks or lunch you have to eat during naptime. They pay min wage or 9 an hour depending on experience. This is the nicest daycare around and that's not saying much. If you come to this area you could make more as an aide at a public preschool and get benefits.
