Christians....stop saying you'll pray for people when times are hard for them. That achieves absolutely nothing!

INstead of telling someone, "I'll pray for you", ask them what you can do to HELP.

Most Christians want to act like they care, but don't want to put forth any real effort to make that happen.

And, for the record, I'm a Christian. But when family or friends hit hard times, I don't tell them I'll pray for them. I step in and help.

Most of the so-called Christians I've heard tell me or anybody else that they'd pray for them did it like they hated their guts and were trying to curse them with that phrase. We're to pray without ceasing, we're to pray privately and without trying to shine a big old "look at me" spotlight on ourselves. If we're blessed to know other true Christians we can pray with, that's so great, magnifies the power of prayer, but in today's society that's just not possible a lot of the time. It's good when groups in the organized religions pray during services together. Even if they're not yet true Christians that sure is a good time for God to speak to them and help them change that, but it's always a matter of free will. We are blessed when we know people we can ask to pray for us and who we know really will do just that, without judgement and without fail. God sure is smart and prayer is one of the best tools He gave His children. I wonder sometimes if it hurts Him as much as it does me when we see people twisting things around and using His Name in vain, using the Bible as a club instead of as a tool of healing and a fountain of Wisdom.

I have to disagree. Many Christians find it comforting when others commit to pray for them and their specific need. Your assumption that they don't then step up to the plate and do something....well that may be true of some people, but not all.
And aside from all that, sometimes there is nothing anyone can DO. You can't do anything for someone who loses their job besides pray for them and listen to see if you hear of something suitable for them. I certainly can't afford to support their household, and know few people who could. You can't do anything for someone who has lost a loved one, besides pray and be there for them if they let you...sometimes they won't.
Frankly, sometimes just hearing the words "I'll be praying for you (with you) are the best thing a real Christian can hear.
What exactly would you have someone do?

My comment wasn't meant to be judgmental. It was to differentiate between those who really are, and those who simply mouth platitudes. I'm sorry if it wasn't clear. I should have chosen my words better.
