We recently moved here from another state and would like to know which place is best for gymnastics Stars and Stripes or Cheers Unlimited? My daughter just knows the basics but I think she has a lot of potential to be a good gymnast. I need a place that is patient and caring because she does not respond to yelling and negativity. Thanks

YOU WILL DO BETTER AT STARS AND STRIPS THEY ARE FOCUSED ON GYMNATICS IT WAS OWNED BY THE GROGANS OF PARAGOULD WHO BOYS HAVE BENN GREAT COMPETITORS ALL ALONG. THEY HAVE PRODUCED KIDS WHO GO TO STATE REGIONAL JR NATIONALS AND SOME HAVE COMPETED FOR A SPOT ON THE OLYPIC TEAM. OTHER ARE MORE FOCUS ON THE CHEER ASPECT. CHUCH NOW OWNS STARS AND STRIPS AND YOU WILL NOT FIND A BETTER TEACHER OR MAN. IF HE NEEDS ADVICE HE STILL SEEKS OUT THE GROGANS AND HIS TIES WITH ELITE GYMS IN TEXAS.
it depends

If you're lookig for all around gymnastics with the bar and all that stuff then you need Stars and Stripes. I prefer CU, but my child is interested in cheerleading. Curtis and the staff at CU are amazing with the kids and get their results with kindness, but they don't coddle. The only problem is that CU is more about tummbling and cheer, not the other gymnastic stuff.

Thanks! My daughter likes gymnastics but not cheer leading. I used to be a cheer leader so she wants to be different from me.

My daughter did tumbling at CU. She loved it. However, tumblers are more advanced at S&S. We switched and she learned faster then ever! She just turned 4 a few weeks ago and can cart wheel, round off, and back walk over. At CU she only learned front rolls and a hand stand and that all the practiced for 3 months. She's really young so it was fine BC she was having fun but she gets so happy and proud when she learns to do something new.

Curtis is not a good person an I would never trust my daughter with him at any age and never alone. He's messed with underage girls associated with the cheer squads!

You need to be more concerned over whether or not your daughter is applying herself to getting a proper education and social direction. These days so many parents thing that sports and gymnastics are all that really matter. Sad.

We just joined & all ive experienced is rude, snide, snobby girls. The one in the office, one answering the phone, may be the same one, but just absolutely rude. We are new & this is no way to keep us here. Her coach for the first day was nice but the snob they've put in charge should be removed. I was expecting the awful "whatevvver" to come out of her mouth any second. Cant tolerate that in a business & they shouldnt either. My daughter liked it but shes not the one who has to deal with rude young girls trying to act grown up, showing their superiority. Paying someone to be rude to me makes me feel stupid, and very angry. Sooooo, what to do?

I use to be a gymnast& I also have cheered. I have went to s&s, as well as cheers unlimited. Go with S&S, most of the comments people have left about CU are very true. They have coaches who aren't experienced at all& they are very unorganized, rude& truly they only want your money. They don't care about what your child is learning and unless your child is just down right amazing when she walks in, she will not get the attention she needs. I will not have my daughter go there. Hope you find a good gym and good luck:)

Curtis is great for tumbling. I will not support the statement that he has messed with girls unless it is backed up with a police arrest. Now, he is terrible with money, absolutely terrible. He has been known to charge money for a competition and never send it in. He also charged for a "professional choreographer who never came, but the money was never refunded. There were several squad involved and an entire squad plus some cheerleaders moved to ACC over it. He is a nice guy, but very unorganized. I hate that part.

He did have a coach who was accused of having sex with a student. A police report was never done, but the coach was fired.

As for coaches, the problem you get into with Curtis is that he likes to hire his senior squad members to coach little ones. That is fine if they are really good. However, several are doing it because he lets them cheer for free that way. If you go to CU, and they are excellent at tumbling, make sure you know who the coach is. Being able to tumble does not necessarily mean you should coach it just so the owner can save money. Him not charging coaching instead of paying them saves him more than they save.

Curtis coached my nieces for years and now his son coaches my daughter. They have never been anything other than professional. They love those kids and they are wonderful coaches. I am extremely happy with CU and have been for at least 15 years.

Considering Bryan Carter just came out of the closet in the last few months, if they are, they are not alone in that.
